    Re: whatever happens insurance

    Shark,

Totally agree with you...I am currently going through a heap of touble with these losers! I bought a laptop 3 months back with the policy WHI(whatever happens Insurance) and asked the counter 'What does this policy not cover' the reply I got back was 'It covers everything!' So i picked up the £10.00 a month insurance for a £500 laptop, last Sunday there was an accident where my laptop was totaled and when called in to claim - they told me 'Oh! that is not covered' and pushing to the point the loser on the other end of the phone started getting argumentative I escalated the matter to his manager'. And repeated what the person at the store said as well as included that 'I never recieved the policy papers withing 21 days as laid down by the FSA!' All of a sudden it was all quiet on the call center front!' they then requested me to send the laptop to them 'that they will be paying for' and are going to have a workshop to come up with an outcome!

Oh! I so hope they go down the wrong road...I can't wait to return the favor!

    Re: whatever happens insurance

No it wasn't paid by credit card, so i can't go down that route but a good idea though. Been on the phone to them today at the store and to whateverhappens, whateverhappens still were adamant thet i should get an immediate replacement, so eventually the store manager phoned whateverhappens and now, whateverhappens say they werent aware that the policy had changed, so the tech team don't even know what they're talking about, and im not entitled to a replacement, because the camera is not in perfect condition. They are querying whether or not it could have been broken by accident or if its a mechanical fault, so it needs to be sent of to the manufacturer and if they say  the fault occcured due to misuse and can't be repaired, my son doesn't get a replacement or a refund its just tough luck, whats so annoying is it says on the insurance document if the products between £20-£130 its an immediate replacement, but as with many policies, they add bits on here and there and basically do what they want.I have to wait for it to be sent off to nikon then returned to the shop and then whenever they can be bothered to phone me up then if i get the camera back send it to my son in iraq.

                                                          thanks for your help debbie

    Re: whatever happens insurance

I used to work for Currys (but this monkey is currently swinging in the trees of the civil service.... Not HMRC so dont shoot me! lol) We used to get so much flack if we didnt sell the extended warranties, and yet feedback shows they are very often not worth the paper they are written on. Stick to your guns and do as Landshark advises.

Out of interest, was it paid for on credit card as you tend to get protection via your card issuer and may have more joy going down that route...?

    Re: whatever happens insurance

This "Whatever Happens" policy is really beginning to annoy me.

If it says "...whatever happens ..." then that is what it means and Currys should sort the matter out without the continual whining that every wretched store seems to do. If the policy covers you then go to the store with a mobile phone in your pocket that has the local Office of Fair Trading's number programmed into it. Ask to see the manager and explain (calmly) that you want the replacement under the Terms and Conditions of the purchase policy. If they refuse or try to bluster their way out, calmly take the phone out of your pocket, dial the number and explain that the manager can now explain their policy to the local OFT person who can then justify to you whether this is legal and right. If he/she refuses, then the next call should be to your solicitor and explain to the manager that they have sold a fraudulent product - namely something that claims to be an insurance policy, but is in fact a useless piece of paper purporting to be an insurance policy. You may also find that the local newspaper editor's number is useful as well as all Currys Managers LOVE their picture in the newspapers.

DON'T shop at Currys and expect service - they hire monkeys and idiots to sell products at dirt cheap prices - no more, no less. If you want service, buy elsewhere and NEVER buy these useless in-store insurance policies - they're not even any good for wiping your backside with.

    whatever happens insurance

    hi

could anyone give me any advice my sons in iraq in the army and he bought a camera from currys on the 5th of sept this year to take with him and its broken so he posted it back to me to take back to currys  the post mark is on the envelope as being the 17th of september so it was within its 28 day warranty  but we didn't receive it till today  5th december so its 2 days out of warranty phoned currys whatever happens and explained the situation that its the only means of contact to my son as he posts pictures on the internet and  they said say its been dropped and they should replace it because its not a manufacturers fault it doesn't need to be sent back  i didn't want to say that  because i don't know if thats what happened so i took it to currys and they said that because it had scratches on it it had to be sent back to the manufacturer to see if it was a mechanical fault or if it had been dropped if it had been dropped he wouldn't give me a replacement so i have whatever happens telling me one thing and currys telling me another who are correct? on the policy it says for all products from £20. to £130. take your product to a store for a replacement on the spot but the store said that it has to be in perfect condition for that to apply.Any advice greatly appreciated i wanted to get the camera replaced and sent back to my son in time for xmas so he can post some pictures on the net

                                 thanx deb
