Re: We need your money-saving tips!

Another excellent way to save money is on your working lunch.

If you arrive into work 10 minutes early and look all concientious and then take your lunch break 10 minutes early you will often find a bounty of good looking food (some of it may appear to be left overs) in the canteen fridge.

Note: Becareful as some people may try to fool you with tap water instead of the quality 1.5 litres of mineral that you can get from M&S for 35 pence.

Most often this treasure trove will not have any names or identifying marks on it and once you get your grubby little hands on it then I am pretty sure the "9 tenths of the law" kicks in. If you are quick and take your fill of this beautiful bonanza buffet and you can be in and out within 3 minutes and nobody will be any the wiser!

    Enjoy!!

Scrub Me: Another tip is for a face scrub. This is an excellent cheap scrub and is used by a lot of makeup artists. Put some sugar and a little Honey or olive oil (Olive oil doesn't clog the pores like other oils for best results use Extra Virgin) together and wash your face. This is a great natural exfoliant at the fraction of the usual 'organic' face scrubs.

Where's my Butty?: If you do forget your sandwiches it's always cheaper to buy some rolls and ham, make your sandwiches at work and you should even have enough for the following day - Maybe leave you buns in your drawer and ham in the fridge so you don't forget ;)

Cereal Made: Leave a pack of cereal bars in your drawer. If you are in a rush and don't have time to grab breakfast you can have a breakfast bar with a nice Tea/Coffee and it may prevent you from nipping to the snack van for a sausage butty (better for dieters out there too). You can use this method for snacks too. Vending machines are not the cheapest snack bars around.

Use Leftovers: if you have left over bolognaise sauce for example use it on a spud or pop it in a little lasagne.Salad for tea? Put the rest on your sandwich. Curry? That's be a tasty work lunch.

Reward Me: Sign up for a couple of cashback websites. You can get cash for simply shopping on ebay, buying something of an online site and much more. Just go through the cashback site first and watch the pennies roll in.

Bulk Buy: Buying things like cleaning products, pet food, toiletries when there are really good deals on. These things keep forever and although it may cost more initially they will last for ages.

Thirst clencher: Fill a bottle up of water before you leave the house, tap water is free water and if you're feeling parched you've got that H20 on hand.

    :o)

Not sure you spotted my tongue-filled cheek while I was posting there. You would, however, be surprised at the price of the low range butties there (from a measly quid). I reckon they taste better than Tesco etc and Marks' is closer to where I work (hey - I could even walk and save more cash..).

[Even cheaper would be a pack of (generic) post it notes so you could write yourself a reminder to pick up your lunch box, you could even use them twice or 3 times over]

Trouble is... I'd forget to look at the post-it...! ;o)

Re: We need your money-saving tips!

Because its 35 pence cheaper and comes out of a tap when you turn it on would be my immediate answer.

I would also imagine that as with all other yummy M&S products that although you get superior ingredients you also pay an approprite price for those ingredients. Personally I would have thought that Tesco or Asda etc would be a cheaper (if less tasty) option as their sandwiches are somewhat more mass produced for a general market.

Re: We need your money-saving tips!

For those occasions where I forget my packed lunch (which is a money saving tip in itself), which is most times I remember to make one, I make sure I only buy from the 'just' range of Sandwiches at Marks and Spencer. Also, 1.5l of water (albeit at an ambient temperature) for 35p and a couple of pieces of fruit make it feel like a real lunch.

ps, at 35p for 1.5 litres, why would you want to drink tap water?

I have saved loads of money only using the loo in work, this is not only saving me water costs but also money on loo roll.

It is always nice being paid to go to the loo too :)

now now, lets not bring the children into this!

Personally I don't like jelly babies, I am more of a fruit gums kind of person, but I guess they would just turn to goo in the bath so no sharing with them. I am definately not a sucker, couldn't put a fruit pastelle in my mouth without chewing.

hmmm. Never thought that trying to find humour in sweets would be so hard

Zeb - Are you one of those individuals who prefer Male jelly babies because you think you get more value for money.?

Pesonally I have always preferred the Female variety. I believe they taste much sweeter, although I've not tested the homo gender..... perhaps you could leave your valued opinion on how they measure up when sucked..??. : -- )

Re: We need your money-saving tips!

    CMK,

Surely it would be more cost effective to share the bath with another man as they generally come in larger sizes but the same amount of water would be needed to do the same job. Therefore for all the same reasons as you mentioned this would be possibly 10% more efficient.

I would certainly consider asking your friends and your neighbours husbands if they would like to share the same bath as I believe this would help to develop caring and sharing to a new level too

Re: We need your money-saving tips!

I always share my bath with a female... I find it saves not only on water because of displacement, but also the amount of gas required in order to heat the lower volume of water that's needed..

If for any reason my Wife is not available then I will go out and ask some other person's Wife or girlfriend if they would like to share instead, call me generous if you like...but hey, that's just the way I am (caring & sharing). !

    We need your money-saving tips!

    Happy Friday afternoon, moneysupermarketers,

We need your help. I am currently working on an article of everyday savings tips that could be used by most people, whether in or out of their home.

    What are yours?

If your tip makes it into the finished article, I will credit it to you. What I'd really like is for it to be an article by the community, so if you have a tip, then share it with the forum and then I will share it with the news page. Fame awaits! sort of...

    Felicity
