Re: we have a new netto, what a waste of time

    lisamellor:

just recently we have had a netto open, promising all these special offers!

now i dont shop in netto, as its too basic for me, but thats not the point.

we get the leaflets delivered every week, saying that offers start on thursday, low and behold, you go in on thursday, and there is none.

now i did go into the store for someone the other day, and was speaking to the checkout lady, saying that its pathetic that they never have the offers in store, she said, they do get the offers in, but they usually get delivered on a tues or wednesday, and because they havent got room to store them they put them straight out. bit of false advertising there! was thinking of complaining to the trading standards, but seeing as i dont go there, i'll leave it to someone else!

also, the area where i live has a lot of elderly people. and they need somewhere local to shop, so they were all very excited (bless em) about getting the new netto, how dissapointed my gran was to go in to see that they dont cater for elderly people, (meaning every tin is a massive one, and most elderly people buy small tins of food)

also, they stack the food that high that my gran is scared that something may fall on her. now my gran is a fiesty lady and didnt think twice about telling the manager what she thought of the new netto!

Hawaaay man, two pages of this gibberish and no-one's bothered to explain why you're not happy with your new netty... Is the seat cold? Can you not reach the toilet paper?

Re: we have a new netto, what a waste of time

I suspect all you folks are too young to know how to use stores properly for your own benefit. The whole idea is to shop in different places and pick up the best buys in each!!

James wants to know the best buys in Netto and possibly the not so good, and so here goes:-

Excellent value: Olive oil, offers on loo rolls, kitchen rolls, laundry products, cleaning items, chicken fillets, chicken thighs, pork medallions, offers on Flora etc, foreign beers (proper ones) their tinned and packet branded 'special offers' which vary, and the non-food specials of decent quality. I have bought an excellent sandwich toaster, printer paper, a rechargeable drill, a small vacuum cleaner (which sells for double the price in Lakeland) Christmas decorations, and loads of small items over the years.

Steer clear of fruit and veg unless very fresh, frozen food, bread and cakes, clothing, and wine.

Lidl on the other hand sells excellent fruit and veg and often has special discount weeks on these with fantastic prices. Every so often they have an Italian/ Greek/German/French/Spanish themed week. Their cold meats are excellent (Try the peppered ham, salami, smoked salmon, black forest ham, & rollmops among other things). Watch out for the wonderful Christmas offers of crab, lobster and so on! They have a good selection of interesting bread (part baked rolls, ciabatta, brioche, tortillas) and very good fruit juices at low prices. Try their skinned peppers in jars, their luxury muesli, frozen fish, parmesan cheese, tinned fish, delicious dark chocolate, tinned boiled sweets, yogurts, bread flour, vanilla ice cream with real vanilla, sorbets ........I could go on.The household range is very reasonable, kitchen and bathroom cleaners, batteries, candles, tissues, make-up remover pads and so on. And their weekly offers can be really brilliant - we have bought masses of office items and DIY products as well as wellies, boots, slippers, baking tins, cycle accessories, car mats, socks and so on.

We are still waiting for our first Aldi to open in Maidstone and having visited one or two whilst on holiday I know they have excellent frozen food like lamb shanks and a delicious plum crumble pie. I can't wait!!

Re: we have a new netto, what a waste of time

Well, what do you want? What do you expect?

Netto do not advertise themselves as a 'Marks & Spencer' outlet do they?

We have a Netto in Malton, North Yorkshire just open and they are simply great. The staff are fabulous and we can generally get anything we want there - or a cheap substitute.

If you want unconditional 'bargains' then go to ASDA.

As for your comments on the elderly.... ....don't they get enough for nothing already?

Re: we have a new netto, what a waste of time

    I'm with you mate,

I shop at netto, not because I dont have lot of money but because I find that the food is ok there is nothing wrong with it. If you was alive during the war or the old days then you had to eat what you got given. Think about that, People today take things for granted.

Me, My Family, and Friends all shop there as its close, I mean thats not the only reason why we shop there alot of us have cars we can drive to Tesco,Asda and all them and we do but netto do better offers sometimes. The technology range is sometimes good, I bought some Speakers and a Sub woofer from there once it was 19.99 and i came home set them up and they are the best thing I bought. Since then i bought a sweatshirt from there which was 8.00 and that is good for the money. When i go here for a shop and have a look around i see things that i did not know they sold and found myself buying things i did not go for. i went for digestives once and i was suprised when i saw they where on three for 80p BARGAIN!!!

I think it all dependes on what you go for, But i dont think its fair when you take a snobby attitude to somewhere you dont shop.

also when i go in most of the time its busy all the check outs have to be open.

believe me i do think that they do have some bad quallities when i go in, when i go in there, there is cardboard all over the floor, boxes are left everywhere, and thats under health and saftey if a H&S inspecter came in and saw that they could eather get a warning, fine or closed down. Also when i said i bought a sweatshirt earlier in this, well i went in i saw this and did not bring the money with me to buy it so i went to put it back but i could not be walking over to the correct place (i know i should have done) but i just put it on another shelp this was mid week so i went back in on sunday and it was still in the same place i left it this tells me they are not doing the jobs correctly.

This is what i got my hair off at as before this opened it was in the paper saying that it would be opening soon and at the time i was looking for work as the place i was working was closing down so i went on the netto website and read the imployment section and it said i should send an application letter to apply for a aplication form to fill out, so i included details about previous jobs and what i could do Etc.... I waited and waited and then after two weeks i had no reply so i gave up

thats not organised at all as the letter i sent off was brilliant if i dont say so myself. i told them i could do till work, stacking shelves and worked as a manager and i have had all previous expericance in these and no reply so i gave up. So when i went in the time it opend i saw that jobs where not being done correctly, then when i got to the till the woman searving was as thick as a door nail, and one time gave me ten pound too much change (no joke)

so i think its there loss that they did not hire me, i wont be asking again unless I see that they can improve how they work.

sorry if i wrote too much i did not realise i wrote that much

anyway, overall i think its mostly like all other supermarkets, there are all bad or good at diffrent things so..... i'll stop now

    thats what i think.

Re: we have a new netto, what a waste of time

I shop at Netto and would like to point out that they have a hell of a lot of branded stuff in there thats cheaper than anywhere else. They do have great multibuy deals too. I also know that this low quality own branded food fact is incorrect, because a lot of it is the same content as sainsburys, tesco, asda etc in different packaging. We hear of far worse stories of food standards at Mcdonalds and other food chains but people dont slag it off because of it's massive reputation....oh and the fact that it's not cheap either.....

Im not particularly on a budget i just dont see the point in paying more than I have to for food, you wouldnt do it for a holiday or new car so why the snobby attitude towards food shopping?

I really would like to know what puts people off from shopping here, or horror stories etc.

    Cheers

Re: we have a new netto, what a waste of time

came across this and thought, my word what a load of moaning people we have in our world. You don't even shop at Netto yet you're gladly taking time to rubbish it.

Sounds to me like a bit of old fashioned snobbery to me - get a life I think!!!! Each to their own eh - shop where you like but hey chill!

No, I didn't drown because my testisatchels swelled up so much I floated back up to the surface. I was then able to use them like spacehoppers and bounce all the way home.

    Yes we have DD.  LOL

If Unclevinnie didn't drown I wonder what happened to the trouser area.  Can't be very comfortable being stung in your nether region by so many wasps!!!

If you ever seen anyone smelling of honey and walking with a limp then you'll know it's him!!!  LOL

Re: we have a new netto, what a waste of time

unclevinnie:Netto had a special offer on Gale's honey a couple of years back, and I like honey so I went to Netto and bought lots of honey from Netto. I got 54 jars but on the way home the carrier bag broke and all the honey jars got smashed on the pavement. I thought it would be a shame for all that honey to go to waste so I scooped as much of it up as I could into my trouser pockets. On the way home I got chased by a swarm of wasps and got stung all over my trouser area and had to jump into the canal.

    And drowned????
