Managed to get the email addresses for a couple of directers for Esure - sent them full details through of what has happened and they have now apologised, I am and always was insured and will continue to be insured and they have creditted me £15 for the cost of phone calls to them! Don't think they were too impressed with rubbish staff trying to throw good business away.

The problem the insurance industry has is that it's generally a crap industry to work in, and therefore has a high turnover of staff. You and your friend have probably been victims of rogue salesmen, who have delibratley ignored the fact that you've mentioned the cars on finace, and have set up the policy as if you're the owner. I've seen this happen time and time again, and there is nothing that can be done about it. It's worth it for the salesmen as they might only be there for 6 months or so, working 12 hour days, and making a fortune in commision. Then they leave before these things come to light. In your case, either the salesman has left and esure are just saying that they'll 'deal with him' to keep you happy, or he's still there but has now gone straight, in which case they'll just dock his bonus.

No they haven't, I was told that my insurance was invalid and they should have never covered me and they will deal with the person responsible internally.

Yes, they would have paid had I claimed but we both know they would have tried to worm their way out of paying, talking to one of my friends last night turns out he also has a car on a personal contract and is insured through esure, not working in the motor industry he didn't have the first idea about reg docs and hasn't explained to esure that he doesn't have one for the car he drives, you think they will pay out if he writes his car off? I don't. There must be 1000's of people driving cars on personal contracts insured with esure.

It's hard to say really. Esure probably has had a change in underwirting criteria since you took out the policy, which would mean that now they will only cover people who own their vehicles outright. It's unusual for them to cancel under such circumstances, as they should honour any policys taken out before the change in underwriting critiera; however they might have been told to cancel any that come to light.

They would have paid you out if you had claimed.

If the Obudsman say there's no chance of complaining then, sadly, i think you're going to have to let it go.

Warning for anyone with esure motor insurance!!

I have just got off the phone from Esure who have terminated my car insurance, telling me it was invalid as the car I have is on a personal contract hire (as 1000's and 1000's of other cars on the road are) and I never receive a registration document as the contract hire company keep it which is standard procedure with any car bought this way.

13 Months ago I took out an Esure policy on a car I owned outright, after 5 months I changed to this personal contract hire car, at the time I rang esure who have the conversation recorded and explained to them exactly what I was doing and even told them that the contract hire company held all the documents but I was the only driver of the car (I explained this as I work in car finance and know exactly what happens whereas many people may not). The Esure representative took my money and said this was fine and very common amongst customers they insure. Today I overheard a conversation at work whereby one of my colleagues customers was unable to get insured with esure as the car was on a contract so I called to confirm my insurance was valid at which point I was told no, spoke to manager who said this was correct and cancelled my policy.

Would they have paid out if I had wrote my car off a month ago? I doubt it very much!

I have rang the ombudsman who said there is no complaint as I haven't suffered any financial loss!

Anyone any suggestions - I will obviously take my business elsewhere which is no problem as I've 8 years no claims but I don't think they should be able to get away with doing this.

Anyone else in same circumstance be advised to contact to Esure and look into - let me know if you have a different result.

    Thanks
