If your browsing is slow it's moer than likely a proxy issue as Virgin Media (NTHELL) enforce them.  I'd recommend changing which will speed it up.

If you still think your speed is slow try a speed test like http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html

Re: Virgin Media anygood or what?

Thank you "Defiant" The problem is I had 10 mgb with Ntl and a rep.came to our house and sold us the set top box for tv. on the understanding that he was doing us a favour. I quote...for 10mgb you are paying NTL £38.00. with an addition of another £5.00 you will have the digital tv that would be £43.00. So we went for it. Now, Virgin Meadia started charging £11.00 intead of the original £5.00 for starters and £26.00 Service***charges on our bill paid by D/D. So that is why I chose the option four before 32/03/07. I have not seen any bills from them since. But I have seen on my Banking site amount split twice that makes us go for one meal a day if we paid it. I am still arguing with them when I can get through. It just not fair as I do not want to loose the Cable connection. Yes I tried the website you so kindly mentioned. It seems erratic, in the evening I am on 4 mgb and during the day which I am in my study all day it drops to 2mgb. I became sick of all the waiting on the phone as my left arm is week, the right arm holding the telephone is going like the left one. For all this does Sir R.B.Know what is going on?. or he simply wants to buy the whole country and than go for the World. (Without Prejudice) you can tell from typing that I am typing with my right hand and a pencil in my bleeding gums each time I type a letter.

I need the internet,I cannot go out as walking is out of the question. Need a miracle with all this guys. Now is just gone all quite!!. WITH V.M.

10mb is £35.00 anyway so I'd suggest you phone retentions tell them how annoyed you are with everything and that you wish to leave.  I think you'll be happy with what they say and the deal they offer you ;)

As for the waiting times yes I know their a joke and I've sent emails to the CEO a few times and but to be fair they have always got sometime from the head office to contact me and sorted the problem.  I'm told the the waiting times are being worked on in fact it's part of the deal made with Branson

Ps I tend to always go to the top if the company p's me off.  I was being spammed once by BT even though I've never been a customer.  I sent them email after email to get the spam stopped but they weren't interested so I looked up the BT Ceo & sent him an email.  I got an email back from Ben Verwaayen within the next hour and this was a Sunday so I guess he was working from home.  Anyway to cut a long story short he was a very nice guy and got the problem resolved (surprise surprise)

Re: Virgin Media anygood or what?

I was with Telewest and they were outstanding with their customer service etc.

Since the change-over to Virgin Media the TV service has become a lot poorer but their internet services are still fantastic!

Can't complain at the moment. I'm able to run a laptop, two desktop computers and an Xbox 360 all wirelessly and using Virgin Media Broadband.

    Brilliant!

Re: Virgin Media anygood or what?

Well thanks again Defiant, It seems all the weeks passed I have been reading everybody's post here but could not bring myself to join sad as I was with all what is happening around me. You people are salt of the earth including the host of all this. Thanks and I will try what you said though I have been up all night. I am sure with NTL 10 meg. was £38.00?.

You see, I have met the Ceo a long time ago at the "Thames TV Building" when it was called that as I was in legal Prof. Thus I walked into an acciedent that was meant for me. That turned my world upside down and my family with sadly also lost my beloved Son at 27 years who would have fought for me. But, he,being in such a good health, and the eventual report said just Sudden death Syndrome. That really cut us up. Here is two lonely people trying to make life as best than comes this problem which they did suspend my Broadband for awhile which was a nightmare living without the WW. I have always paid by D/D,it seems at the time the VM meadia staff were out to get anybody as I have always been disconnected from the phone when I insisted they look into the matter and blip goes the phone. Well, I now feel very confident after hearing from you and I am going to the top amd yell as loud as I can. Yes, Many thanks  again.

Re: Virgin Media anygood or what?

I have quadruple play with Virgin Media  -already had a Virgin mobile contract and was transferred over from NTL/Telewest, with whon I'd been for four years, mostly OK ones.

My set-top box was packing up. I called Virgin Media - got through in 5-8 minutes. They arranged for someone to come out two days later to replace it. The appointment was fixed for a time between 8.00am and 12.00. The night before I received a text confirming the visit. On the morning in question, a guy arrived at 8.30am. He replaced the box, made sure it was working, took the old one away - all in 15 minutes.

    Top service.

My only gripe is with their VIP product, which I would like to upgrade to as it only costs £8 a month more than what I'm paying, but they insist on running an extra cable to another room in the house and gioving me a second free set-top box which I DO NOT need and which would cause major disruption as we have 200-year-old panelling and wall to wall carpeting inside the house. Yet if I simply wanted to keep the existing box, which is out of sight in our basement and add the VIP services to it, I would have to pay about £25 a month extra. Mad.

Re: Virgin Media anygood or what?

Yes friend, you are one of the lucky one's.  I presume you enjoy a good credit rating as VM are so strict about this. Should''nt a person who has been with them for such a long time as me be of some credit worthy? so they could fullfil their obligation by giving me the mobile as it says in Option 4.?. Well, you keep in good stead with them and I wish you well.

I will keep on to them until I get my little bit of pleasure. What ever, I am glad for you.

Re: Virgin Media anygood or what?

I have just quit Virgin Media to go over to Sky, but after reading some of the posts on here about Sky I am panicking a bit. I am hearing stories of dodgy connection speeds and problems with email.

I had the top of the range Telephone and mid range package on Telewest before it became Virgin media. I have always been with Sky for TV as you get all the Sky digital content that you dont get on Telewest / Virgin (footbal first etc).

I left Virgin as I am going to be saving about £20 a month to move on to Skys top of the range package for TV, Telephone and Broadband. This is after BT line rental.

I done this after I found out that I shoudl have been receiving a TV package for free as part of my Virgin deal, which they neglected to tell me. When I rang them up to chase it up, I was put on hold for 20 mins before being transferred to be put on hold again.

The service was always good for Broadband and Telephone, though I objected at them putting up the prices and then removing content (i.e Sky One etc).

Good service, but they make you pay for it. Virgins equivelant package of the one that I have signed up to with Sky would cost about £30 more!!!

Though only time will tell if Skys Broadband and Telephone Service matches that of Telewest/ Virgins.

    Hi Big Jan

This is interesting as it seems that Sky are deliberately targeting VM's top end customers with very low cost deals and loads of free premuim TV content - is there anyone else who's had a similar experience to Jan?

    Cheers

Yep an old trick but what you don't know is if you try and cancel your Virgin Media package you'll be put through to retentions and they'll offer you a far better deal.  A friend done this the other week and they even gave him the new HD pvr box

I wouldn't say it's an old trick its standard policy for most providers - THE very best deals in the market are not advertised on sites like this but rather offered to people when they threaten to leave - you'd be amazed at the deals on offer if you do this.

Re: Virgin Media anygood or what?

They contacted me after my telephone was switched to BT.

I told them that they had missed the boat and that I had lost faith in them on the basis of customer service response times. The fatc that they had not supplied me with the equipment to take advantage of a service which had been paying for was enough to put me right off them.

I listed the facts to him and he didnt bother making the offer: Poor Customer Service, The none supplying of teh TV service and teh fact that Sky was cheaper for more channels and greater interactivity.

I am just hoping BT come up with the goods.

Jason, what should I say to get the best deal, these sales people always talk you into bad deals that they benefit from. I tend to be a walk over when on the phone, should I demand a package for a price or should I see what they offer me?

     Cheers
