I see Virgin are still as good as ever then? However, I think you do have to pay outstanding debts and then claim back anything they owe you, but as I am not sure, best bet is contact either Trading Standards in your area, or Citizens Advice, they should be able to answer your questions. Good luck and leave Virgin ASAP

Without boring you with too many details I would like to add they are absolutely useless. Firstly I paid for XL broadband and for months and was not receiving it because they hadn't sent me the upgraded modem I required. Even when the new modem was sent the average download speed was around 6MB!!

Secondly after being with them since day one after NTL I recently tried to end my contract only to be told I had apparently agreed to another 12 month contract of which I had heard nothing verbally or in writing. At the moment I am being dragged through their complaints procedure and failing that I will have to go through trading standards and OFCOM.

All this hassle to a loyal customer that has never missed a bill or anything. Avoid these lot like the plague. Never known one company employ so many inept idiots in one place.

Re: Virgin Media anygood or what?

Where to start. Had one of their door to door salesmen appear on my door and was looking for home phone and broad band package. They had a deal on so I went for it, worst decision of my life.

Engineer came to fit it, and then promptly said he needed two people for it, *** off and never came back. Had to rebook them to come out and install it, which they did about a week later. Unfortunately at the junction box the chap crossed the lines and so I could not use the phone for 5 days due to sharing the line with someone else whom was extremely annoyed about it.

End of that month received a bill for over £200 pounds due to calls to Africa, even toughing I know absolutely no one in Africa. Ended up getting the bill scrubbed as it was the guy who I was crossed with whom had been calling relatives in Africa.

Broadband wise, this is going back a bit and I had the 2meg broadband deal which for the whole duration I had it ran at anywhere between 350-550K which is extremely slow. Phoned them up about it and engineer came and took a look in box, and replaced router. Still had the problem. Spent the next 3 weeks on and off their support team to try and find the cause of this problem, which half the time involved talking to people who did not even know what to do or suggest a tracert or ping test. Finally got told its because of a heavy user in the area, which I was under the impression would have had his service cut for such an act, and that they were in the middle of upgrading their servers for their new internet speed service they were bringing out and I had to wait for them to do Birmingham, which was about 2 months away.

Two months passed same problem, was told that it had not been done yet. Another month and still the problem persisted, had a support person on the phone in a heavy Indian accent saying that "I am agreeing with you sir, I am agreeing with you that your internet is very slow", and that’s about it.

Phoned up there customer services to cancel my contract as they were not providing me anywhere near the service I had signed up for and was told that I would have to pay the remaing months costs on my account as I was breaking the contract, when I pointed out it was them in breach of contract and not me I was told that they could not disconnect me without charging me as the system would not let them do it as I was still in contract. So I decided to wait for the contract to expire and went elsewhere for my internet.

Started to receive phone calls on my mobile of virgin asking for my opinions on their service and whenever I told them of my troubles they would hang up and a few days letter get another phone call of them. This persisted for about 1 and a half months until I blocked the phone number they were using.

Finally came to the point where I could cancel my service, Spoke to a disinterested women about cancelling my account, never received a confirmation letter or bill for the next two months except for what I presumed would be my final bill which I paid. I did not pay by direct debit but used to phone up and use my debit card. About two months later get a phone call of them saying that I owe them 80+ pounds for unpaid bills and when I pointed out that I had cancelled my service was told that there was no records of this or me phoning them up in that time frame on their system and that I would have to pay these bills and late payment charges to cancel my contract again.

Now with Sky and could not be happier, had excellent service from the start.

Re: Virgin Media anygood or what?

23rd of December . My Virgin box goes faulty. They initially state there is a fault in the area. Took my Dads box from his house round the corner and it worked in my house. EARLIEST TIME OF REPLACEMENT by an Engineer 31st DEceber 2008. Happy Xmas to you too and I hope your cable TV packsin over Xmas and your kids cant watch TV either. Oh and yes it was India and I was offered a measly £15 compensation - stuff it of course. All I wanted was another box despatched for me ( an Engineer ) to connect up and they could uplift the defective box on the 31st. Sorry no can do. BA HUMBUG to Virgin customer services.

Re: Virgin Media anygood or what?

Sorry if this thread is getting on a bit but I was looking for a solution to my problems with Virgin and felt I had to warn anyone about to select Virgin.

    Quite simply - DON'T.

There are much better deals out there when you actually consider what you are getting. I get a better deal with Freesat and separate broadband. The Virgin basic channels are not as good as Freeview and you can get a bigger choice with Freeview and Freesat than you can with their Large package.

The real clincher is that, (like many other companies now) if you change your package or move, they renew your contract automatically. They did this to me and the salesman LIED about it when I upgraded. Now the service has not worked properly for nearly two months, I wanted to change and the cancellations agent broke the news about the contract - the only thing he actually didn't do was say "SUCKER!" but you could tell he meant it!

Re: Virgin Media anygood or what?

Had a call from VM asking about my International calls, thinking they were going to try and sell me some kind of call package i said ok, then was told i owed them £110 for 2 calls last night. I was in alone at the time the calls were made and did not phone Djibouti for a few hours. They say calls were from my phone, i can get an engineer round to check the line and if they find nothing wrong i have to pay £110 plus £75 for the engineer. I have no faith in the engineers whatsoever as having been with VM for 6 months, 3 engineers have been out to try and get the TV channels to work to no avail, approx half that i should get don't work since day 1, "quote 1200" appears on the screen of non working channels. Last "engineer" said i dont have a clue what the problem is, so how the hell can they check for a hacked phoneline? Plus the door of green cable box outside flats is wide open and won't close due to being forced open.Do i pay £110 and go back to BT and say what a joke VM are saving £75 in the process? Not happy and would like to shut VM dowm immediately but have 6 months contract left. Are VM bothered ? NO

    doohan1

If someone has hacked into your line, which appears to be the case from what you have said, why don't you call the police ? This is surely theft or fraud and therefore must be investigated. If you do get the police involved, you can then give VM a crime reference number. Who is responsible for securing the green cable box? If this has been forced open so someone can hack into other peoples lines, then surely the box needs to be made more secure.

not sure if this is too late but avoid virgin media , they are nothing like the old ntl team was such a great company back before the takeover.

im pretty sure the stress they put me through just trying to keep up with the stupid random amounts of money they would add onto my bill every month has push the onset of my bi polar disorder these guys almost killed me im only 26 lol, im thankfully stress free and happy with sky at the moment , amazing services, 0 overseas call centres so far well worth the money.

im on an 8mb agreed download speed witch runs at 9-10mb a sec well over what i pay for the broadband is amazing
, not to mention the tv, films and music and the massive hd range of channels just wow :D
