    Van to Car NCD

It would seem that some companies will not accept my ncd in this situation and out of interest was wondering what the rationale is for this?

I will be much more careful in a shiny car than my scabby van.

    Oh and hello all.

Hi Ron, my driving is impeccable at all times of course ;-) it's either the pie or the mobile, never both at once.

My sarcasm was based on my surprise that having a perfect driving record in a potentially more unwieldy vehicle doesn't count for much.

Must be based on some statistic or other, not a problem just interested.

i gave up years ago trying to figure out how insurance works. if you look at it another way surely it should count more in your favor that you have gained ncd points by driving a van around as against a car ... shop around, or get a new shiny van there are some good looking one's around...

    Oh and hello all.

The No Claims Discount is worked out differently for the two different vehicles thus making the percentage slightly lower. It is certainly not an unacceptable to use your NCD from a commercial vehicle to a car, but the discount will be slightly lower until the following year.

You need to speak to an intermediary who will be more able to seek cover with an insurer happy with your circumstance.

    Dear Dozy

You have obviously already tried several insurers and I am assuming that the insurance company with the more favourable quotation would not allow you to transfer your NCD?

You are more likely to get your NCD transferred from your van to your car over the telephone. I would suggest running your details through the Moneysupermarket comparison tool, the red tab at the top of the page, then taking the top 3/4 companies and then try telephoning them and explaining your situation.

    Good luck.
