    Vacuum cleaner

We bought ourselves a new Hoover vacuum last weekend - with a HEPA filter to filter out cat hairs

The cleaner keeps on overheating and cutting out - due, it appears to the filter becoming blocked

Does anyone else have this problem ?

Should we return it to Comet ?

Well that's a no brainer. I though you were going to say you returned it to Comet but they said no.

    Tomorrow's post perhaps.

Return it if you can and save up for a D*s*n.

First get a friend who hasn't got a cat to try it out, as it could be that it is overheating because you have so many cat hairs! As time goes on, you will have fewer and fewer; if it overheats at your friend's house then take it back and explain the problem. They should exchange it without a quibble, but check it out with the friend first then take it back.

With vacuums I think you have to return it to Hoover. There is a freephone on the Hoover documents. When I bought a vacuum recently , there was a label saying do not return to the store in the event of a problem. I think this may be for hygene reasons. Stores normally have to take goods back within a given period, but I think there may be get out clause for shops re vacuums. Hoover should get a local agent to pick it up to fix, replace or arrange refund if not fit for purpose.

I had a Hoover and the motor burnt out after about 18 months. Not the best.

It could also have something to do with the large amount of "Shake 'n Vac" that is being sucked out of the carpets - which the old vac - "missed" - the instruction booklet says something about the filter becoming blocked - but EVERYTIME ?

    Re: Vacuum cleaner

hi, I have had a hoover cylinder bagless the space saver pet one and the motor is burning out... I was just curious if you got anything from hoover for this?

I am sick of 12 months warranties and goods not being fit for purpose. I am trying to find out a contact to write to at Hoover customer complaints as I find contact details or an email work better... I would go the small claims route but not worth it for the cost of the hoover (about £79 ish)..... so far this year the road angel packed up (£250 worth of equipment) and beyond repair and now the hoover, oh and the boyfriends camera is playing up... these electronics are supposed to last longer than 18 months.... no wonder we are a throw away society no-one makes anything that lasts anymore (sorry sound like an old fart at 35)

    Any advice welcome.

    Thanks

    sickofbeingrippedoff:

Under EU law all consumer goods have a minimum warranty of 2 years.

The fact is that a two-year guarantee applies for the sale of all consumer goods everywhere in the EU (Directive 1999/44/EC). In some countries, this may be more, and some manufacturers also choose to offer a longer warranty period.

So phone the Hoover returns/service helpline with details of your product and they will tell you how to return. Hoover did used to have local service agents who would pick up, repair if they can and then return. If no repair is possible, they would usually deliver a replacement.

A £80 hoover probably only cost a tenner to make, so are they bothered if X percentage have to be replaced. I doubt it.

    Re: Vacuum cleaner

Just had a new carpet fitted and the vacuum can't even suck up the fluff from this without becoming blocked

It is definitely not fit for purpose and is being returned - the problem is that we have bought additional filters to try - will we be compensated for these as well ?

If they replace your current model, perhaps they will give you an upgrade instead.

I have a vax with a turbo brush, but find that after each use, I have to spend time cleaning it out. If you don't, the next time it is used, the power is only half as good. I think some of the models with more advanced features and better filters, are too complicated for their own good,

I cannot remember having the same issues with the old simple vacuums, that had bags. They didn't come with all these filters and fancy features.
