jimbob39:Utility Warehouse are a waste of time unless you make use of the cash back card that they give you for sainsburys but you would have to buy everything on the card to make up for the extra you are paying for your electric and gas. The company is a type MML company so pays commission to the sales person on an ongoing basis and that persons boss also gets a slice of the commission and needless to say that persons boss also gets some commission and so on. All this means that the customer pays more. As always, do a price comparison search.

    Thank-you!

    huckster:

I think the level of your bills for a 3 bed house are excessive. You must be constantly cooking, washing and have the heating on most of the time.

For a small 3 bed, I would want the bills for gas and elec to be less than £100.

Suggest that you look into why there is so much usage and yes you should switch to a more reliable company.

When you cancelled the Direct Debit with the bank, UW should have had a note from your bank to say that you had cancelled the DD mandate. They should therefore not have reinstated the DD without obtaining a new DD from you. You can therefore request that your bank refunds the amount, as you have not agreed to any new DD arrangement with UW.

I would like to say I am doing mostly housework all day, but sadly not, much to my partners disappointment!

I find the comparison websites a bit of a minefield to be honest. Switch over looks like it could take a good 6 to 8 weeks. You can get the best deals on line, but I want to talk with an actual person to establish the best deal. Having looked at three different comparison sites, they all give differing companies as the best deal, and at quite a varying rate. We got as far as choosing a deal, but I chickened out as they asked for direct debit details etc. However, I will give NPower a call tomorrow and see what they can do.

As for UW, they have assured us money will be back in our bank in five working days. We shall see! I have little or no faith in them. I had called them when we had our first bill, I wanted to discuss with them the high price. They were so unhelpful. Even their energy efficiency line has been unanswered all day. I informed them we wanted to change providers, thinking they may give us a reduced rate. They did not seem to worry at all that they were losing custom, and told me I wasn't paying any thing above the norm. I have not spoken to any one that is paying any where near what we are, and on the most part they are friends with a much larger household than I.

    Thank -you for your input!

Utility Warehouse: Helping themselves to my money!

Inherited UW in my current property and my previous one also. First property was a large two bed flat. Bills reasonable, about £60.00 per month for gas and electric. About a year ago, in our first property, we noticed that two payments had been taken by UW within a day or two. After a few phone calls, got the money refund. I most likely got a bit bolshy with them, but money refunded nevertheless.

New house. Small 3 bed home. Just us two and our young son. Bill jumps up to £190.00 for one months gas and electric. landlord is a friend. She lived here before us with her two teenage children, partner and young child. Her bills were about £120.00 per month. No other service with them (Bills cheaper if you have more service with them?!). Any-way, as her bills were so much lower it cant be that they estimated our usage based on her bills. We called them up, and our actual meter readings matched what they had estimated. We cancelled the direct debit, was due out following week. Called up and paid bill over phone using our card. Just looking at our account, and the jammy bugger have once again helped themselves to our hard earned cash. They have reinstated the Direct Debit and taken the same amount again! So, looks like we have paid £380.00 in one month! Nice work UW, as soon as I can figure out who has the best prices, I am switching!
