Definitely; explain he's a young inexperienced driver and the risk of the car cutting out on the motorway will be dangerous, they should collect in the circumstances.

Thanks for your reply. My brother is only 18 and has just passed his test and would have to take the motorway to get to the garage so obviously it isn't ideal for him to attempt that when it is likely the battery won't last the journey. The garage have a tow truck as I have checked their website so I am going to try and get them to pick it up.

They should arrange for the car to be collected, especially if you are not confident or happy with the possibility the car may cut-out whilst in traffic or leave you stranded...or if you are a lone female driver.

The charge the mechanic is placing in the battery will only last for a limited time, if the alternator is not charging. The car cutting out is inevitable, it's just a matter of when. If you explain this to the dealer; as a good customer relations exercise they should arrange the collection of the motor.

    Used car warranty?

    Hi,

My brother bought a used car last Thursday, on Sunday it wouldn't start. A mechanic has looked at it and is charging the battery but has said it's the alternator.

The garage has said they will repair to for free, however we still have to get the car the 15 miles to the garage. Surely they should be picking this up?

    Any advice appreciated.
