    Re: URGENT - PIPEX PETITION

Hello all, I'm new to this site/forum but found it while desperately searching for a solution to my list of problems with Pipex.
Me and my family share the cost of our connection and have been with Pipex since Oct 2004 and have had nothing but good from them until Nov 2006 when we tried to change our service from Solo 2000 to Pipex MAX. We were quite happy with 2MB but the Pipex line checker tool said we could go up to 6.5MB in June, and 8MB in November. So.......
Firstly, we phoned them and arranged the regrade (after several emails about it to customer services) with what seemed to be no problem, keeping the normal payment date, username, etc. Shortly after that, we received emails saying we would go live on 20th November. Ok, we thought, everything seems to be fine. Sure enough, on the 20th our service changed and our router showed we were connected at 8192 Downstream / 448 Upstream. We did notice we didn't have the Static IP we asked for, but this was assigned to us on the 22nd. I decided to log in to mypipex to check invoices (which I do regularly) and i see 3 new ones, dated 20/11/06, 22/11/06 and 22/11/06. The first one was labelled Pipex MAX, for the amount £35.67, taken on the 20th. The second invoice was for £0.00 as it was the free static IP option, dated 22nd. The third one was for Pipex MAX STATIC, amount taken was £34.03, dated 22nd. All payments were taken before the normal payment date of the 2nd of the month, without our knowledge, and it actually made the account go overdrawn. I immediately rang Pipex and they told me that the first payment had been refunded. After explaining to the girl that Pipex had taken the money and put the account into overdraft she told me that that wasn't right and that Pipex would possibly pay the overdraft fee of £30 if I emailed the details to one Tichea Brade AT pipex.net. I thanked the girl for her time and effort and ended the call, and emailed this person straight away. I never got a response to any mail to the address.
To prevent future overdrafts on the account, I changed the payment to Direct Debit on my personal account (the one we were using previously was my brother's) in early December. Come January 2nd - fee date. Nothing removed from my account, no letters of confirmation or anything. My account says I have no DD's set up. My brother received a letter stating that he was overdrawn again - we assumed this was Pipex's doing. So we rang Pipex and they said, yes we have taken it from the first account. We said - it says Change Payment not ADD payment, why do you still have his details on record? The man said they had a choice of the 2 accounts and just went for the first one on record, but they were sorry and removed the details (he said he had done it there and then) and future payments will be taken from the second account - ie mine.
Then today we get a phone call from Pipex saying they did not receive the payment - we tried to explain what had happened before and apparently the original account details were still on record. We disputed that they had taken the payment - as it turns out they tried to but were blocked by the bank (the overdraft basically stems from Pipex and there are other bills that needed paying). The lady gave an address to send evidence of payments taken and not taken to, and said that future payments would be taken from my account. We tried to stress that it was the fault of Pipex that they had tried to take payment from the wrong account but I don't think the lady really cared - she just spouted monetary jargon and then went.
This matter combined with terribly slow speeds (currently 3776 / 192), throttling and high latency is driving me and my family up the wall. And the more I read about Pipex the more I feel ill and disgusted. I have tried numerous phonecalls and emails, I will be sending letters like some of you have done.
Also, my mum was on Swtich2, which are now part of Pipex - before they changed, she had absolutely no problems. Since they changed to Pipex, she's been overcharged, billed for things she didn't ask for and been insulted on the phone by some of the customer "care" individuals.
Please, if you're thinking of going to Pipex - STAY AWAY!!

    Re: URGENT - PIPEX PETITION

    Hello again,

It doesn't suprise me to read that Pipex are taking payments from accounts without permission and keeping the details on line when you've asked them to remove them.

As I said in a post on the 11th Jan. I haven't been a PIPEX customer since August 2006, yet in December 2006 they accessed my bank account and took a payment.

As I am no longer a PIPEX customer, I have contacted them and I am told I have to wait 7-10 working days for a reply from their Finance Department.

Is simply not good enough. I see there are people posting on here who work for PIPEX

Well I'd like an explanation please!

I consider this saga theft and I have said so in my letters complaining about this. At the moment as far as I know PIPEX still have my bank details, they haven't written back to say they've been removed and I have not received an apology.

    It stinks.

    Re: URGENT - PIPEX PETITION

If I've said it once, I have said it a hundred times around these forums. I hope that these few pointers will help you all:

    1. NEVER use a credit/debit card to make subscription payments to ANY ISP, but especially Pipex and AOL.

    2. If you have been unfortunate to use a credit/debit card for this nefarious organisation, send a final letter by recorded delivery stating:
    - (a) That no further withdrawals are authorised
    - (b) That any further unuathorised withdrawals will attract a charge of £x by you against Pipex
    - (c) That you will notify your bank of these fraudulent transactions

    3. Copy your bank on the letter

    4. Watch your bank account and charge Pipex for each and every withdrawal. (Whether or not they listen to you is irrelevant as you can then chase your invoices through the courts if necessary).

    5. Pipex Internet and all its various inept subsiduary companies do not have the first clue about customer service and I am sure that there is not one genuine customer sevice agent appearing on this forum. If those people who allege to be customer representatives of Pipex are genuine, then I suggest that they quietly remove themselves from this forum. They cannot offer services within their wretched company so I am darned certain that they cannot do it on a public forum.

    6. I can assure you that in over 20 years of being in the IT Industry, Pipex is guilty of the worst customer service that I have ever experienced. They are inept, rude, incapable of even lying consistently, and totally unable to grasp the concept that they are WRONG.

    7. DO NOT rely on e-mail communication as this is not legally admissable although it can be used as corroborative evidence. If you wish to terminate your dealings with Pipex, do it in writing and with a recorded delivery, back it up with an e-mail if necessary.

Pipex needs to be taught a lesson and their cretins in "Customer Services" should be sent back to the JobCentre where they belong.
For every positive action, there's an equal and opposite government plan.

Anyone experiencing extremely slow browsing between the hrs 1800 and 2300. Oh and between these hours it takes 1 hrs to download 30mb file, that is serious sh*t. Anyone know how to do speed test/s and if i reported the cr*p results to pipex would i then be able to cancel without being friggin charged £300.

Re: URGENT - PIPEX PETITION - beautifulexep

oh maybe you could call me, as after spending approximatley 5 hours over 6 phonecalls to get my refund over leaving for bad service (after having account for 18months). every time they i got through (eventually) they offered me a refund for the 3 months but they continued to still take money. Every time no refund, more money spent on phone. They even advised me to cancel my card and get a new card as they couldnt undestand why thier acocunts apartment was so crap they kept taking the money even tho the account was still shut. Never received a refund as i was probably spending more money ringing up every month when they had promised AGAIN the money would go in.

    so yes please ring me

    Re: URGENT - PIPEX PETITION

Ah, there speaks a (rather uncouth) man who obviously hasn't tried! Pipex staff appear to be trained not to allow callers to speak to management. If there is any 'management' at Pipex then they should know what level of service they are providing - which is propably why they wont accept calls!

    Re: URGENT - PIPEX PETITION

After 5 months of fruitless phone calls, e-mails and letters to Pipex I was about ready to tear someone a new rear-end. I finally emailed their Press Officer, sending her details of my blog and all the forums (including this one) where people complain about Pipex's outrageous behaviour. I received an e-mail the next day assuring me that my complaint would be dealt with, my account cleared etc. I will believe it when I see it in black and white on my next bill but I am hopeful.

If anyone else wants to give it a go you canmail her at

    Re: URGENT - PIPEX PETITION

I recently had Pipex take a large payment from my bank account which I did not owe them and after querying this with Pipex they tried to deny the payment had been taken, so I contacted my bank (Natwest) and got them to confirm they had taken the payment.

After many phone calls later to Pipex customer services I gave up and lodged a compliant with my bank who refunded me the money Pipex had taken and my bank has now issued an Indemnity Claim against Pipex.

My advice to anyone having Direct Debit problems with Pipex is talk to your bank and see if they can help you out.
