Urgent - phone or laptop cheaper?

    Hello everyone,

Hope someone can help please. I'm moving to the UAE beginning of July and want to stay in regular touch with my Dad. He is 65. What would be best for him, I'm thinking of getting him a laptop and teaching him how to use email, he has just discovered he has broadband, but obviously he will have to pay for this service each month; or for him to buy a phone card to cheaply stay in touch by phone.

I'm staying with my father this weekend coming so would love some replies before then.

    Many thanks!

You can actually get some good deals on phones at the moment.

I know that you can get a sim card from O2 called our country that works as a "pay as you go" sim card HOWEVER, when you top up they give you so many mins FREE to telephone numbers abroad.

So for example, if you moved to UAE you could set it up that his calls to you would be free for how ever many mins they give him. Off the top of my head I think its maybe £15 for 500 mins of calls. That can be to any landline or mobile (as long as its a mobile from that country)

Thats just my suggestion, but take a look on the net see what deals there are.

Alternatively, get him a laptop with SKYPE - free calls from skype to skype

Hope I have been some help
