Ultra high service bill!!!!! Advice please

    Hi there.

My Cevrolet Kalos was booked in for it's 60000 mile service last Monday (11/08/08). Having recently had my MOT completed at the same garage for a grand total of £55 a month before and being advised that in the near future i would need to replace my exhaust and windscreen wipers i wasn't expecting anything out of the norm. When i booked my car in the only jobs required doing were the front left ABS sensor needing replaced and my fuse for my windows also being replaced as this had blown. Much to my horror the bill, which i just received yesterday (21/08/82), came to an astonishing £652.81!!!!!!!! This was without the exhaust or the windscreen wipers being replaced although these items were listed on my MOT pass certificate. They have somehow calculated that i owe them £330 for labour but don't quote how many hours this is for and have added as many little bits and pieces as possile to bump the bill up. They added all these extras without phoning to clarify with me first. The most annoying part is that my car was running fine and the only thing that i could note wrong was the ABS warning light coming on and of course my windows fusing. I am now stressing as i am worried that they won't communicate with me and that they are going to want all of this money upfront. I have a baby due in 6 weeks and i just can't afford this. I didn't get the chance to talk to them yesterday and now i can't sleep with worry. I want to try and be civil with them but i'm to worked up that i feel when i do phone i'm just going to lose the plot. Can anybody please advise what i can do about this and how to go about getting this cost reduced?

    Regards,

    Scott.

Hi I used to work for a well known car company on the service desk, and we had to call the customer to get the work approved and tell them the cost. They should have given yo a cost of the service then it is your choice if you decide to have the work done on your car. I would strongly express to them that they have carried out work that you have not authorised. You can also ask them for a break down on the labour and ask their hourly cost. They can reduce this as this is all profit pretty much!

    Hope you get on ok
