Trying to Close my Barclaycard Down

    Hi,

I have recently paid off the last of my debt on my Barclaycard, I rang them today to see why the account wasn't closed down as I was led to believe that once I cleared the final balance it would be (I was a bad debtor for a while about 3/4 years ago so it had been on an arrangement up until about 2 years ago when I managed to sort myself out). The balance is 0 and my available credit is 0. I don't even have a card for it as they took it off me when I was having difficulty paying it all those years ago. They say that it's closed but when I ring them it still accepts my account number and tells me my balance and available credit.

All I want is a letter to say that the account is closed, mainly for my piece of mind so that I know that it is actually closed but they refuse to send me anything. I had a Debenhams card and when that got closed down I had a letter telling me that it was closed. If GE Capital can do it I don't understand why Barclaycard won't do that one simple thing for me. The last statement I recieved said nothing about the account being closed which makes me think that it isn't and still isn't despite what they said to me on the phone.

Is there anything that I can do? I feel like I am hitting my head against a brickwall talking to their customer services.

    Thanks.

Hi --- Although it's a pain, you would be advised to write a simple letter saying you now consider this account closed and you will not therefore be held legally liable or accountable for any further transactions.

Send it recorded delivery and keep a copy for your future protection.

    Hi

I agree with the previous respondee though I would send the letter by special delivery instead. This is guaranteed and you will be able to trace it; when it was delivered; at what time and you can actually get a copy of this signature. I think with registered it's not guaranteed.

Either way you'll have proof if it comes back to "bite you" at some point in future.

    Cheers
