    Re: Travel Insurance rethink

Depends on the condition that the medication is related to, but you probably don't need to contact a specialist pre-existing medical condition Insurers. Try the Post Office, as their Insurers Ageas have a pretty good reputation. You would need to phone them to go through the details on 0800 294 2292.

Other companies worth contacting are Direct-Travel.co.uk, World-first.co.uk.

    Re: Travel Insurance rethink

Thanks, for your reply. Medication; which to me is innocuous and with previous insurance broker was acceptable, but because this is a standard (cheap) policy offered to airlines the policy has some very specific limitations.

I did telephone the insurer but they would not amend the cover even for an additional cost, which on reflection I do understand for the reasons above. They simply suggested that I should buy an additional policy (from another company!!) but that in the event of a claim that I would only be permitted to claim from one policy, which is fair enough. However there is a lesson for others who like me don't fall within the standard deviation; speak to someone before you commit to buy, or read the conditions within 10 days otherwise you may not be covered and you will loose your money.

The insurer gave the following scenario: "for example if you were to stumble and fall and needed treatment and if our Doctors when looking at your medical history concluded that your medication was contributory then we would not cover you, you would be liable for all expenses relating to the injury...., therefore it would be up to you to challenge the Doctors assessment that the medication didn't cause the injury either directly or indirectly". All medication has the caveat of do not drive, operate machinery etc!

If only the high street broker whom I've dealt with hadn't retired! I'm now in this minefield and not sure who to go to!

    Re: Travel Insurance rethink

What cover do you think is missing from the policy via the airline ? If you have any questions about the cover why don't you give them a call. Is it possible to upgrade the cover ? Ask them.

No point cancelling it, as there would be no refund.

There is nothing stopping you arranging another policy. In the event of a claim, you would claim on one policy and they would share the relevant costs with the other, providing they both cover the same risk that is being claimed for.

Suggest you ask questions about the current policy, before you panic into arranging another policy.

    Travel Insurance rethink

I recently booked a flight and choose the airline's 'easy' insurance choice. However I have read a number of threads at Moneysupermarket.com and I think I have choose insufficient cover. I am over the 14 day cooling off period and cannot get my money back. What should I do? a) Cancel the policy and take out a more comprehensive policy with another insurer, b) Take out another policy in addition to the airline one? The airline's 'easy' policy seems to be a standard no frills cover and doesn't seem to be able to be amended. After reading moneysupermarket's editorials and the forums I really don't want to consider c) Hope for the best.
    Any help appreciated.
