travel insurance for item worth £600

    Hi,
I've been looking for an annual mulit-trip worldwide policy that includes covering repatriation of my body if I die (but doesn't limit that cover to a ridiculously low amount), and covers my laptop which cost £600 two months ago. All I can seem to find are policies that have an individual item limit of much less than that.
Can you recommend a way to find this type of cover? Is there even a site where one can search by specifics like?
Thanks very much indeed for your help,
    and peace

    Hi,

Do you have all risks on your household insurance which means that your items are covered anywhere in the world. If you have this option on your household policy usually the upper limit is around £1000-£1500. As for the repatriation of your body most policies will cover this. Have you looked at Marks and Spencers as they are quite competitive however again you will find that it is unlikely they will cover a single item at £600.

    Good luck

Ah, but I don't have house insurance! Also, most of the repatriation cover seems to have a low limit - £1000 or so - when even from Spain it costs about £3000 apparently. Getting an 'actual cost of repatriation from anywhere in the world' clause narrows my options quite a bit, it seems.
This must be such a common need as so many people have expensive cameras let alone laptops...
    Thanks again for your help,

Precisely, which is why most home insurance companies incorporate the cost of the higher risk eventuality into their premium.
It isn't in the financial interest (or customer interest) to write travel insurance business with increased limits for such items. Claims would be much higher and thus so would the entire travel insurance premiums with or without high limits.

Putting these items into all-risks under a home insurance policy will allow you to specify items taken out of the home either in the UK, EU or Worldwide - obviously UK being the lesser risk and Worldwide being the higher risk and the highest premium payable out of the three.

Re: travel insurance for item worth £600 - can anyone help?

As the question was not answered I would like to revive this old thread.

I have spent sometime today going through insurance policies in an attempt to get cover for my laptop & camera and found nothing suitable - hence ending up here looking for answers.

Its easy enough to get a quote of baggage value to £2500 which would more than adequately cover everything I travel with but single items are usually limited to £250.

I have come across this issue before and just taken the risk but if I spending out on insurance it would be nice to have some peace of mind. Surely there must be plenty of people who do not have household insurance that covers this?

This is topic that interests me as i once got caught out with a cheap policy.

I have the amex platinum insurance and it covers items upto £500 (after your excess and adjustment for wear and tear should be sufficient)

The premium is not cheap but offers very comprehensive cover.
