Re: Travel Insurance claims for cancellation due to injury

    Hi Natalie

Sorry to hear about the injury and I hope the operation goes well for him.

I have just had a quick look at the definition of a relative on the Insure and Go policy and this includes Husband, Partner (as long as you have lived together for more than 6 months) and Fiance. Therefore there seems to be a clear enough distinction there for you to cancel due to the injury to your Fiance. As they don't specify that you have to be co-habiting with a Fiance as long as you are engaged then this should give you a chance of claiming for cancellation.

That being said, if your decision to cancel rests solely on whether insurers will re-imburse you then it is unlikely that this would be looked upon favourably by them.

My advice would be to ask to speak to a senior adjuster, explain that it is an injury to your Fiance, being a defined relative, that is causing you to cancel the trip and what is the likely outcome. Please bear in mind that they cannot give a defnite answer about how a claim will be viewed until such a claim is submitted so the decision to cancel or travel will still not be resolved by the answer they give but you may get a much better idea about what to do.

Travel Insurance claims for cancellation due to injury

Hi, I had booked to go to India to backpack with my fiance for 3 weeks before commencing a university elective in Southern India.  Because of this, my return destination (and date) was different from my fiance's, so we actually have different flights booked.  Also, since we were backpackers, no accommodation has been as yet arranged.

On Monday, we wre sent from A&E to a specialist Hand Clinic since my fiance had his finger broken and he has since been told he needs surgery next tuesday (we were planning to fly out this coming saturday 18th august) and he has been advised not to travel, since it will be too late to operate when he gets back and he may lose the use of the finger if they don't go ahead now.

Since we are booked on different flights, and have not yet booked accommodation together (althougth we did book visas together, delivered to the same address, and with the same dates) will i be able to claim back the costs of my flights, with Insureandgo's Backpacker insurance?

I have spoken to two advisers at their claims office this morning, one of whom said yes, the other no.  Now I'm unsure whether to cancel and risk losing £450 if it's not accepted or go ahead and travel aolone?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Natalie
