Transferring a current account balance to a credit card (0%)

    Hello

Can I transfer my £2000 overdraft to a credit card for a 0% deal?

I'm currently paying interest on a £2k overdraft and would like to transfer it on to a card.

Can I or can I not transfer the £2k on to a credit card by providing my bank account and sort code to the credit card company. They pay £2k to it and then my credit card balance is £2k + 3%, which I have x months to pay off by.

I ask this because I have just been on the phone to Natwest and they claim I cannot do this - but I am sure I have done this a few years ago. My overdraft is also with Natwest, so given they can see everything maybe they weren't the best people to talk to about this.

    Can it be done.

    Thanks in advance for responses.

    Matt

Hi --- It's been mentioned some credit cards do not allow a direct transfer from overdraft onto certain cards, I do know that Egg cards allow this facility, perhaps you used them in the past.

Correct - Egg were my first ever balance transfer.

I hadn't realised this was specific to them though. Thanks conmankiller.

I'd like to hear form anyone who has transferred to a different credit card in this way, as opposed to transferring a credit card balance.

    Hi,

I have just taken out a credit card with Virgin and you can do money transfers into a current account with the,m, so could do that to pay off your overdraft (thats what I did). The fee is really low too, cant remeber exactly but sure it was someting like £80 to transfer 2000 and its 0% for 15 months.

    Hope that helps

I have been doing a little more research.

Natwest do a Platinum card. One of the features is this:

    * Make fee-free transfers by phone to any UK bank account (minimum £250)

Does this mean I could transfer in to a current account (not necessarily my Natwest one, I have others, should they smell a rat). There aren;t many details on the website.

Does anyone out there have a Natwest Platinum card? Used this feature?

Oh hang on. I think they charge this "fee-free transfer" at 1.2-1.4% per month. That's not cheap is it.

these cards are known by some as "super balance transfer" credit cards as they allow movement of money to "overdrafts" or current accounts.. If you look at the list of balance transfer cards on the XXXXX website.

You can cheat and move the balance twice, eg get a transfer from natwest to an egg card, then from egg to your current account. but watch out you don't end up with 2 fees.

Natwest charge interest on money transfers from the day of the transaction until the balance is cleared in full. Usually between 12.9% - 15.9% APR on new accounts. No fee though.
