    Re: Transfer to Broadband

Just to point out as it hasnt been mentioned anywhere else on the website. Please dont confuse MAC network ID's with MAC codes in broadband connections. A lot fo cable users will of heard of MAC ID's as every computer has one. MAC ID's are like IP addresses, they provide an identity to a computer on a network. Cable as it it based on a base T computer network uses MAC ID's to identify authenticated computers on the network and as such should not be confused with MAC codes...

Slightly off topic but I thought the information maybe of some use...

No problem Baffled. If you need solid, impartial and independent advice in choosing an ISP, come back here stating what it is that you require and expect from a prospective service provider.
That is of course if admin here will continue to allow my independent stance.

    Re: Transfer to Broadband

MAC or Migration Authorisation Codes are for broadband to broadband transfers only so the answer is no.
You have two options really. Either pay an activation fee of around £50 or take a deal where the activation fee is paid for you. Be warned however that the latter usually requires that you sign up to a twelve month or more contract. If you take this option, ensure that you do your homework first!

    Transfer to Broadband

Hi can anyone tell me whether I need a MAC code when transferring from a Dial -Up - Connection with one provider to a Braodband with a new ISP? I wish to cancel out my old ISP & e-mail address completely and start afresh. Thanks
