Re: The 'It's Chriiiiistmas!' 2008 thread

1/ What are you doing for Christmas?

Cooking Christmas dinner for eight, then I'll be collapsing with some nice red wine (or maybe champagne, or maybe both...)

    2/ Best ever Christmas present?

When I was about 8 all I wanted (for some reason) was plasticine and I got this set with loads of different colours in - all my other presents that year paled into insignificance.

    3/ Best thing about 2008?

    Joining moneysupermarket, of course!

4/ Most annoying thing about 2008?
Working with Graeme (only joking...). The 4.30am Monday morning starts when I had to drive up from London were rather annoying. Thankfully, those days are now over.

    5/ Hopes for 2009?

2008 has been quite an incredible year and on the whole, not for positive reasons, so let's hope we see good news on the economic front in 2009. I'm also hoping for a holiday in the sun.

    6/ What’s your best money-saving tip?
Research before you buy - look on the internet to find where you can buy what you're looking for, for the least amount of money. Oh, and I love my cashback credit card. I use it for everything (and pay it off in full each month) - it's such a nice feeling when I get money debited back to my account at the end of the year.

7/ Best community post of 2008?

I agree with Graeme. It's been amazing to see how the forum has provided such a valuable place for so many people and what a good source of help and ressasurance you've all been to eachother. The Icesave, and the other threads that started in the wake of the Icelandic banking crisis probably stand out most to me.

    The 'It's Chriiiiistmas!' 2008 thread

In the words of Noddy Holder: “it’s Christmas!”…

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I re-introduce (drum roll): The annual moneysupermarket.com Christmas thread. Let’s have a bit of fun…

1/ What are you doing for Christmas?

Avoiding mince pies, eating cheese and crackers, hoping for snow.

    2/ Best ever Christmas present?

    It’s still ‘Crossfire’ aged 11!

    3/ Best thing about 2008?

Never a dull moment working alongside Clare. And she didn’t pay me a penny to say it…honest!

4/ Most annoying thing about 2008?
The misery of the economic rollercoaster ride: up, down, sideways and back - not enjoyable at all. Neither is the party political bickering about how to fix it...

    5/ Hopes for 2009?

Cut in interest rates for credit cards; my football team to avoid relegation. We can but hope...

    6/ What’s your best money-saving tip?
Always, always, always read the small print. Know your consumer rights!

7/ Best community post of 2008?

I still think it’s any thread that informs, educates and [preferably] entertains… so, well done everyone on the ‘Icesave enquiry’ thread. It was great to see the invaluable support you gave each other through a very tough time and the good humour you managed throughout. I also think it’s worth putting on record our personal thanks to ‘conmankiller’ for all the invaluable assistance he gives - you’re a genuine star.

Finally, please don’t forget to ‘Introduce yourself’ - and give a warm, friendly welcome to our new members.

All the very best for a safe and thrifty 2009.
