The best type of saving account for me.

    Hi,

I am so confused with the different types of saving accounts. I intend to spend 12 - 24 months travelling around the world when I read 40 years old (I am 36 at the moment) so I want to set up an account that I can save £150 a month (maybe increasing this later to £200-£250 next year)

I do not want to have access to the money for 4 years, and I obviously want the best interest I can get. Ideally, I do not want to risk the savings on the financial markets.

I currently do not have any savings but want to set up a monthly standing order from my salary account.

I have an account with Yorkshire Bank (salary) and Nationwide (Flexi account)

    What would you recommend?

First you should use up your ISA allowances. The rest should go in a regular savings account and, when you have saved enough and if you can get better rates, switch to fixed term bonds. You can compare rates using the "money" tool at the top but you should stick to banks and building societies that you know and trust.
