Community:Hi Indie. Lambrettas are classic scooters which, IMHO, look beautiful when they are NOT ruined by tons of mirrors and lights (which are never wired to work anyway). People who ride scooters with all that stuff on would class themselves as mods. I am not a mod. Sleek and fast is best for me.

    Hi Nic

I didn't realise 'fast' scooters existed.  LOL.

Thanks for enlightening me, very interesting.  I'm glad you don't ride one with all the mirrors on - they do look a bit odd.   I'm very into motorbikes.  I spent many years going to moto-cross meetings as my boyfriend, at the time, used to compete.  When I was 16 I purchased a Suzuki ER100 (don't laugh)!  It was white and it was my pride and joy.  I used to go to work on it, around 10 miles away.  I worked as a secretary at the time and used to walk in the office in my biking gear, dirty face and helmet in hand, pop swiftly to the ladies quick spray of perfume, quick spruce up and come out with my office wear on, rendered my boss speechless every morning, LOL.  Fantastic.  Never stuck in traffic jams, didn't have to 'pay and display' and miles and miles to the gallon!!!  I can still remember my 2-stroke as if it was yesterday.  LOL.

BTW, I remember having a playful 'dig' at your music tastes not so long ago, only to discover that you have a very modern and varied taste.  I was listening to the radio today and they played Frankie Goes to Hollywood - 'Two Tribes', just brilliant.  A blast from the past.  Decided I'm going to download their album this evening for a bit of nostalgia.  Addendum:  just did - sheer bliss!!!  :o)

    Hi Indie.

Lambrettas are classic scooters which, IMHO, look beautiful when they are NOT ruined by tons of mirrors and lights (which are never wired to work anyway). People who ride scooters with all that stuff on would class themselves as mods. I am not a mod. Sleek and fast is best for me.

In any event, keen students of the mod "scene" in the 1960s know that the mirror "thing" was one of a number of fads at the time. The thing about REAL 1960s mods was that they were slightly elitist and hated to be typecast. The minute someone decided to copy a particular style was the minute a real mod changed it. Which is why I feel sorry for those wannabes who fondly imagine that the only way to demonstrate their "modernism" is to ape everyone else who also has clutter all over the front of their scooters.

Here endeth the lesson (sorry about that)...

Allnighters: I find one is fine to handle and recover from easily. It's when you go to a rally like IoW and stay for three days, with endless daytime and night-time entertainment, which invariably includes copious quantities of alcohol, that it takes a while to get back to normal. Thankfully, that only happens once a year. On most other rallies I pace myself to one night of frenzy and a fairly quiet night with just the "odd" drink or two.. (LOL)

Hi DD, Nic, Peta and all

It's me - Indispensable - can't log on for some reason - so am using this name til I know why!

Nic, the Lambrettas are the scooters with zillions of mirrors on them aren't they?  I know the ones.  I was a bit of a mod at one time but prior to that I was a rocker!  This was during my teenage years when my mind was all over the place, so it's hardly surprising I switched from one extreme to another.  Think you know everything when you're that age though don't you?

My question is - when you've been on your all-nighter, just how long does it take you to recover.  It used to take me just the one day but now it's more likely to take me just the one week!  :o)

Re: Thanks for getting our forum back to normal Moneysupermarket!

    Hiya all.

What else can I tell you? I'm a journo and have been for many years. I know some of the ins and outs of personal finance, for my sins.

The only other dark secret I feel like sharing - not that much of a secret really - is that I like to ride old 1950s and 1960s Lambretta scooters and go to lots of rallies where I drink too much and dance badly to soul music. Next week, for instance, it's Dumfries calling.

I go to allnighters like the 100 Club (sadly no more).

It's all part of a habit that's hard to shake off for those of us who were around in the late 1970s and early 1980s during the second scooter revolution. No, I'm not a mod.

Oh, and I have a rough collie called Sally who is beautiful but unpredictable, and occasionally ride a horse called Peggy.

And the reason my pics not up is that I'm wearing my moderating "hat" today. But it is me: Nic Cicutti, editor of this august site.

He's been to Glastonbury a couple of times (one of them during a muddy year)

Is there any other sort of Glastonbury?!

And where has his atavar gone?

    peta

True peta, muddy Glastonbury is par for the course.

I think his avatar is not showing because he was posting with his 'Community' hat on.  If he's posting as Nic Ciccuti then his personal avatar appears.

jjnaughalty:Hmm maybe not DD but, as they say, the quiet ones are the worst..

Well - I know a bit about our Nic.  He posted on a previous thread.  We had a lorra lorra laughs didn't we Nic?  I have quite a soft spot for him.

He's been to Glastonbury a couple of times (one of them during a muddy year) and he really enjoyed it - there - that shocked you didn't it? For his birthday he was given CDs by Snow Patrol, the Fratellis, Lost Prophets and Kasabian.

Now then - the bit about the hidden secret - think I can answer that one as well - to quote Nic:

"But I still get a tingle if someone plays Gloria Jones' version of Tainted Love, a faster and up-tempo version of the Soft Cell single (which they nicked off her).  Try it"

So there you are - that's his weakness - Gloria Jones gives him a 'tingle' every time!!!   LOL.

Nic has also promised that we can have an avatar (piccy) on the forum - so I'm hoping he keeps his promise.  Hey Nic - <wink, wink>
