temporary car insurance whilst I sell my car

Hi, just brought a new car and need to insure my old car for fire & theft for a few weeks whilst I sell it, I've tried loads of places to get insurance but they don't do short term or charge almost as much as a years policy !!!  Any ideas please?

Is there an insurer who provides a plan which is monthly - ie pay monthly, get monthly cover? They wouldn;t necessarily advertise it as short term, but if you read the small print on what penalties there are for early cancelation you should get an idea.

Failing that, what about asking the insurer who is covering your new car?

Or speaking direct to a local broker who will have dealt with this sort of thing before?

The best plan is to speak to the insurer of the new car - most companies allow TAV's (Temporary Additional Vehicles) to cover just this eventuallity.

    Hi Debbie,

I did exactly the same thing, I just insured my car whilst it was sat on the drive up for sale. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention companies on here but I did mine through a company called Day Insure. I did mine for a month, but you can do it by the day if you like. There are other companies that do this. Just do a search on Google.

    Hope this helps.
