Really is frustrating that the company wont rectify their poor workmanship. Whats annoying is that they are really keen to talk to you before the sale is made but once they have done their work and gone then they just ignore you. Have now taken advice from Trading Standards. Anyone else had a poor experience with Compact Surfacing?

Thanks Cool Customer. Good point about using the driveway for something other than its intended purpose. Have been in contact with Consumer Direct who have been helpful and the next step is Trading Stds. If nothing comes out of it maybe its time to name and shame. Cheers

If it was me, I'd write to them setting the facts out in written form and ask them to honor their contractual obligations - regardless of any 3 year guarantee offered the work carried out has to be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. It clearly isn't and unless you have been using the tarmac drive for a purpose other than what it was intended for (you don't have a tank that's been turning in the driveway?) I struggle to see how they could argue. It might be worth contacting your local trading standards office to see if they have any experience of this firm, just so you can see what your up against if the company has a history of complaints. Also check whether they belong to any trade bodies or federations that might have some kind of dispute resolution / mediation service.

In March this year I had my driveway tarmacked by a company offering a 3 year guarantee. Within a month weeds started coming through and the driveway has been sinking around the edges. In May when we had some hot weather, the tarmac started melting and even the slightest tyre pressure lifted the tarmac leaving the driveway looking 'pitted'. Company said nothing they can do as the damage is caused by me turning in the driveway (they have completely ignored the other problems with the sunking drive and weed growth). I live on a busy main road and had the driveway tarmacked so that I could turn the car around. Please advise.

My advice to others is not to use internet based companies without genuine references (even if they have been going for 40 years).
