*** On the Modem (they) sent, the ADSL link light is constantly red and every other time I try to log on to the net I get the following error message: ***
*** "Error 692 - There was a hardware failure in the modem (or other connecting device)" ***
You shouldn't need to "log on" to the net. The MT882 is a combined modem/router and IT dials out for you automatically once you have stored your BB username and password inside it, and saved the settings.
Check what is going on in the status page for the modem. You'll need to access that at http://192.168.1.1/ if you are using the Ethernet connection, or at http://192.168.1.2/ if you are using the USB connection. You will need a username of "admin" and a password of "admin" to access those settings and status pages.
There should be no dialler software of any sort on your PC itself. If there is, then it is likely that you are trying to connect through your old 56k modem or some other connection. You will need to install USB drivers for the modem if you use USB. If you use Ethernet then there are NO drivers required at all. You will then need to access the modem admin screens via your web browser to set things up.
Make sure that in Windows, that in the Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections options you select "Never Dial a Connection", otherwise the computer will always attempt to use your dial-up modem to get on the Internet instead of looking for your ADSL modem on the local network.
