You can't. From memory, Nationwide Visa are more generous in their order of applying payments (check before relying on this)!

But that is exceptional. The devious practice is common practice as already stated.

You need two cards, one for balance transfer(s) and one for purchases.

how can i avoid this devious practice catching me out again please ?

    Simple. Learn from your mistakes.

This is a well known, advertised and documented process. Balances are paid off the cheapest first.

If you want to use a Credit Card for a balance transfer then you should never, ever purchase anything on the same card.

yes it's a devious practice but quite well known. Explore Money Saving Expert for the low down. As you have been caught before no idea how to answer your last question.

    stung in the past

i have a virgin mastercard which i have transferred a balance to,and while waiting for my new spending credit card to arrive, also made a few purchases on.

i wish to pay off the purchases only as the purchase 0% rate expires in july.

in the past i have paid off the exact amount of the purchases, only to be charged interest in this same situation.

the explanation i was given was that my payment had been deducted from my balance transfer, and my purchase bill remained.

how can i avoid this devious practice catching me out again please ?
