Yes. Shares in London are generally quoted in pence per share. Shell have shares listed on a few exchanges but today's London closing price was 2013p or £20.13. That's the middle price but for popular shares there's not much difference between the middle price and what it would cost to buy. If there's no great change in the price before you buy, if you buy 500 shares, it will cost you something like

    £
    10070 500x20.14
    50.35 0.5% stamp duty
    10 Broker Commission

    £10130.35

Stocks and Shares... A question on how the pricing works...

    Hi guys and girls,
I'm New here starting, to read up and explore the world of stock trading.

    My question is this

Taking as a random share... RDSA (shell)
If the price of the share is 2,130.00 Is that price per share in pence?

So the actual price I am paying is £21.30 PER SHARE.
Or would I be paying £2130.00 per share?

I am getting a little confused! but am pretty sure I am right with my first assumption.

    So another quick :
the price of RDSA as it stands now is Share Price: 2,013.00 - If I had £2013.00 to invest I would be able to buy 100 shares in RDSA.

So how many of these shares :

could I buy with a £10,000 investment, just for arguments sake.

    Thanks.
