Someone knowing bank account details - what can they do?

    Just because we're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get us. You are right to be cautious about giving out your bank details, but sometimes you have to if you are in business because payment by BACS/CHAPS is the way of the world. They probably won't be able to do anything with the details, but the best precaution is to contact your bank to stop DDMs being set up.

    I know Jeremy Clarkson got stung for this one a while back but is that all someone can do? i.e. Set up a direct debit.

    Currently involved in a bit of a dispute with a customer regarding payment and gave them my account details so that they could make a payment.

    Now just a bit concerned in case they're able to do anything with my account.

    Should I phone the bank and say no direct debits set up please?
