OK, when I suggested Googling "mp3 catalogue software" I should have said "mp3 catalogue freeware". If you do that you will get some suggestions, and other search keywords to try, but you need to do some of the legwork yourself.

There should be software out there for that, it's a simple case of searching the location of the mp3's for all id3 tags and outputting the results into excel, try sourceforge.net, they might have something handy. Or Tucows, or CNET

Additionally Windows Media Player and Winamp will happily keep a library of your MP3s and you won't have to convert them.

Re: Software to catalogue MP3 collection

Do you mean software as a means to storing your MP3s as well as maintaining a database of the album titles etc or purely cataloguing what MP3s you have?

Any piece of software that's able to read the ID3 tags of MP3 files should be able to do this for you. As an earlier poster said, iTunes should be able to do this. However, in my opinion, it's rubbish and slow on the PC. Different story on the MAC of course. Just beware that you'll have to tell iTunes in the options not to convert to AAC format (Apple's poor quality default format)

Google "mp3 catalogue software" and maybe you will spot what you used previously.

Does Itunes allow the cataloguing of "externally sourced" music ?
