    So Called Reality TV

    Hello All

Am I the only person not captivated by reality tv? As one show finishes another one springs up. I would be interested to know if people are really watching them because they are that good or because they are not offering many alternatives. Before someone suggests if I don't like it turn it over or off I am aware of these options, but as I pay my tv licence it would be nice to have varied primetime programmes and not have to resort to these options to avoid them. If you've got an opinion on reality tv good or bad feel free to share.

I kind of agree with you there, I'm not that big a fan of reality TV, but then when I do watch it, I get a bit hooked! It must be popular enough for the TV channels to put them in their prime time slots, but I'm with you on the 'not really finding it that captivating' front. I used to really love the 'original' reality TV. I love watching old re-runs of 'Aiport' on freeview. I think it's gone a bit far now and eveything is about people getting their 15 minutes of fame, and as soon as it's over, they wheel out the next lot for another go. I understand you're point about paying the tv licence and wanting variety. At least we've got a few channels to watch rather than just 5, although most of the stuff on freeview is repeats which are a bit boring...with the exception of Airport of course.

Unfortunatly all TV channels care about are rating/viewing figures. I have seen many good shows cancelled on TV/shown at rediculous times because the networks dont think they will get the figures. I would love for the BBC/ITV/Channel4 + rest to do a 1 week exeriment. Pull the plug on TV. Just switch the transmitters off. No TV!

How long do you think it will be till there is rioting in the streets, people finally waking up to real matters (rather than 'what happened on coronation street'), realising that every day we are getting walked all over. TV is really just another form of control to keep the average idiot content and to stop them questioning why we work 35+ hours a week.
