This does sound like pretty sharp practice on the part of PlusNet and I'm sorry you've had this experience with them. Please keep us informed of what happens as I'm sure some people may find what you've gone through useful, (and good luck).

    Cheers

    Thanks for the reply Jason,

I did read the small print and was aware of the connection and equipment charged which is deferred and reduced over five years. But what was not mention was a charge for moving house, so i phoned the customer services and was told that 1 free re-connection was allowed if you moved and stayed with them. Their definition of "free" needs to be clarified. Nothing is free it is deferred and it shoul both be advertised this way clearly and also on their support lines, rather than tricking and blatently lying to thier customers. I am still in dispute with them about the reconnection fee on moving my BB to another property. Requested phone transcripts but haven't heard anything since!

    Hi Webstar

I'm afraid that most ISP's do have charges for cancellations or when you move home but they're not classified as hidden charges because they're stated quite clearly in the terms and conditions, (albeit in small lettering). My only advice I can give you is if you want to avoid any charges then stay with PlusNet for 3 more months and then you can leave them without getting stung for it.

You will usually get charged either way if you try to move home with the same ISP, but if you switch to a new one you'll probably get the migration for free.

Also be very wary of products with a minimum contract or no contract - it's a common held belief that this means you're not bound by anything but in fact they will almost always charge a cancellation fee if you leave inside the first 12 months.

Above all else make sure you read the small print before choosing your ISP.

    Cheers

Do all broadband companies have hidden charges when you want to leave them? I subscribed to Plusnet 9 months ago and now I want to either leave or change address they want to charge me from £104 to £141. I this normal as I have never heard of it before.
