Skywalker - Really exterminator, I am surprised that a man of your abilities would have time for such trivialities as Sky TV.

The wife enjoys having Sky TV so she can have a good old weep when a alleged 'true' movie is screened. I just like to remind her that in reality it's about as true as 'Corrie'.

I derive some kind of sick satisfaction from this......so to me personally the subscription cost is almost worth it.

    Muhahaha !

Thailand has cable/sat that includes many movie channels, CNN, BBC24, CNBC, etc etc. They have local channels, but to be avoided unless you like a stream of badly acted soaps and quiz games.

I accessed all the cable channels via a Box that decoded the TV signal over IP through my broadband.

4 months ago I decided to move from Bangkok, and I now live in Cebu, Philippines. There is SKY here, though I haven't bothered yet.

Probably a package of TV, phone and internet. Can be cheaper as a bundle, so you get the extra channels for almost nothing, when compared with paying for it all separately.

What is TV like in Thailand ? Is it that bad, that you do a lot of reading instead or go out every night to enjoy cheap food/drink.

If you need cheering up, put on a DVD of Top Gear.

If you get annoyed at the government, put Downton Abbey on to remind yourself of when Britain was Great.

Need a dose of reality TV - the original reality TV program: Antiques Roadshow.

    Need I go on?

    Sky TV subscription increase

If like me you feel annoyed at the latest (again) petty £1.50 hike on the basic Sky TV monthly package charge and you are out of contract with them, try phoning the cancellations number and tell them that you wish to cancel the service altogether and you are now giving them the required 31 day notice in which to terminate the service.

You will be asked why you wish to cancel? Then just inform them that you are very angry about the price increase and do not consider in this day and age that the Sky service is good value. They will pass you over to the cancellations department who will very likely offer you a reduction from the proposed new increased price of £22 / month .....to a lower reduced £16.70 / month contract free one year period - (emphasise this before noting the contact name, date and time of the call).

Not much I know; but every little helps and it's certainly better than just laying back and being fleeced by needlessly contributing even more into Rupert Murdoch's compensation fund !
