Votewithyourfeet if you see this, great post of Jun 29 among others. Had to post to say your proposed punishment seems a bit extreme even for those responsible for all the grief suffered by everyone. You refer to the original. Don't tell me there's a cover version out there somewhere as well! lol

Re: Sky broadband - it is rubbish !

Well....it kept getting slower, and slower....so I have turned my router off for 10 seconds and turned it back on again and it is now working a treat...fast and loading pages super quick. I guess I shouldn't HAVE to turn it on and off, and may need to do it again (hopefully not too frequently) but if that's all it takes, then overall I'm pretty happy. As I said, all the preliminary was relatively hassle free....the support isn't great...but I have got there in the end, using resources (like this site) to help me out.

So it aint so bad afterall...

Re: Sky broadband - it is rubbish !

I joined Sky Broadband about a month ago now...everything went quite smoothly with router delivery, activation date etc Some hitches with setting up the wireless connection and tech. support only so so with advice, at one point telling me to leave the encryption off the router which would mean ANYONE could access it?!?! Ended up updating my wireless drive on the laptop and so far that has been OK. But after a couple of weeks of really high speed connection i.e. pages loading quickly etc, this last week or so, the connection speed has been ridiculously slow, granted at peak times, but these are the times you want to use it!! Has anyone else had similar problems with slowness of connection and does anyone have any tips as to how to fix the problem? Should I try and reset the router, or turn it off and on again?!

    Cheers.

Re: Sky broadband - it is rubbish !

    Hi everyone

I've posted on this forum and others before about Sky as I had a really bad time trying to get Sky BB, which now I'm thankfully out of after 2 months without any internet. I appreciate it is easy to moan about something when it goes wrong and, as has been mentioned, you don't get that many people saying how good something is. However, I've been scouring the forums of other websites, including www.skyuser.co.uk amongst others, and there is quite a bit of discontent with Sky BB.

If you happen to be one of the lucky ones, then great, good luck to you...I wish I'd have been one of them, but there is a wider issue here. Sky blatantly jumped on the broadband bandwagon when all the mobile phone companies started entering the market. Yet for such a huge company with an immense amount of money (last year turnover was over £4billion) they should've done their homework and invested properly in this service before offering it up to it's existing TV users. It's a bit like when Three (mobile phone company) launched some years ago and they were slated as having no coverage and poor customer service. I would be happy to go back to Sky BB (I am now a Three customer and am very happy) if and when they have sorted out their shambles of a broadband department, which really has no clue what they're doing.

What really annoys me is that they have taken no responsibility for the problems, blaming everything on BT, and almost have a non-communication policy on this. Why hasn't someone come out and said OK we hold our hands up, we got it wrong but we're working hard to resolve it by investing in better infrastructure etc. etc.? It's because they don't care about individual customers. They think if they treat us as individuals, then nothing will happen, but if we start acting as a group and showing them that people are refusing to sign up because of these problems, then they may have to acknowledge it. The first step to giving up the booze is to accept you have a problem!

People have to make up their own mind whether to subscribe to Sky BB, but it is a RISK. If you're lucky, you're lucky and you'll never know any different, but for those of us unlucky people, it has truly been a nightmare. Expensive phone calls, no internet connection, no acknowledgement, no apology, talking to a different person every time and repeating yourself over and over, frustration, stress.....and all for a poxy broadband connection to save a few quid!

Even now they're presecuting me, demanding I send the router back at my own expense, despite the fact that they're still charging me for a service I have never ever received!

Anyway, the more people stay away, the more chance Sky will have to admit their ***-up and do something about it. Whoever is in charge of their broadband dept. should be forced to sit in a darkened room and listen to Jordan and Peter's wedding song (the original) on repeat, then they might realise what it's like dealing with them!

Good luck to those who brave it, welld one to those who don't. Saving yourself a few quid really isn't worth it....

Re: Sky broadband - it is rubbish !

Another vote against sky. Connection drops at least twice in an hour and I keep on having to reboot the router. Tech support were pretty useless and they claimed it was my firewall even after I told them that its rarely enabled. On asking if there are any firewalls they recommend, I was told to "ask around and talk to my friends"!

Why do we put up with this nonsense in this day and age!?

Re: Sky broadband - it is rubbish !

    Hi,

These adverse comments are just the tip of the iceberg; there must be tens of thousands of us who would cheerfully throttle Sky to death, given the opportunity, for the grief given to us.  The Sky Talk is just the same - Sky have made a complete and utter balls up of my calls account with overcharges and credits all over the place - I can't work out what they are doing, and I'm an accountant!! I can't wait to go back to BT

If you want my advice, wait 12 months and see oif there is any improvement. Its nearly been that since I put my trust in them and NOTHING has changed in the poor service given in this time. Perhaps in another 12, they may get their act together.

     Good Luck

Re: Sky broadband - it is rubbish !

Oh dear!!!!.... now I am really confused.   It took me months to finally decide to go with Sky BB, so I came on the net to do just that, and sort of fell into this forum by accident.   I couldnt believe all the negative reports on the BB service and was so grateful to have found it before I signed up.   Now I'm reading all these positive comments, and I'm all mixed up again and dont know what to do.   I want to go for Sky's triple package ( tv, phone & BB), and I live in Scotland, up near Aberdeen.   Anyone have any experience of this in my area??

Just out curiosity following these posts does anyone here have Sky BB in Tower Hamlets in London??

I live 1 minute from Bromley By Bow station and would be grateful to know anyone in a similar area with sky BB...

     Thanks

Re: Sky broadband - it is rubbish !

    Thanks Johnnie & JJ -

I really appreciate your thoughts! I also think that happy customers will keep quiet whilst bad service prompts an avalanche of criticism....For the price of Sky BB/phone(I already have the excellent TV service - no complaints there) in comparison with BT I've decided its a risk I'm willing to take! Hope I don't regret it! I will apply for a MAC code this week, and see how I go on with th transfer.....I'll tell this thread how I go on! Fingers crossed.....

My thoughts on the terrible feedback on this forum is that you aren't ever going to get people beating a path to a forum to tell people of (good) service that we expect, only those with a gripe to share. It's the same whatever product or service, he who gets good service will probably tell one person, he who gets bad service will tell a hundred.

    I second these thoughts.

I have been a Sky BB customer for a full year now and during this time I have not experienced any problems whatsoever. The only occasion I have had to contact customer services I got through straight away and my problem was resolved within 5 minutes.

I may be one of the lucky ones, I don't know, but I have not heard of anyone in my area experiencing problems with Sky BB and I live 5.5 kilometers from my local exchange.

On the other hand previous to Sky my isp was Orange and I had nothing but problems with their BB service and customer services. When I was eventually allowed to quit them and move to Sky it took me 4 months to get any refunds and the telephone aspect for calling their customer services was a whopping £431.67

Sky BB has been excellent for me.

    Regards Johnnie.

    Hiya Sarah,

I suppose you are in the hands of the Gods whether you get great unbroken connection from Sky or not. I've still had no problems, am happy with the speed and pricing too. My thoughts on the terrible feedback on this forum is that you aren't ever going to get people beating a path to a forum to tell people of (good) service that we expect, only those with a gripe to share. It's the same whatever product or service, he who gets good service will probably tell one person, he who gets bad service will tell a hundred (estimated figures, you get my drift?!?!?!?!).

I'm in Warrington, near the town centre, not sure where the server is but I don't care for now.

My opinion may change if I encounter problems, till then I'm off to sing Sky's praises in Warrington Town Centre!!!!

Re: Sky broadband - it is rubbish !

JJ, I've been considering switching BB/landline from BT for a while now. I've had advice from MS expert, and Sky really is the best deal for me......BUT, I'm worried that I will suffer like others from droppped connections etc. I live in Leeds, 4 miles from city centre - I just wondered where you are? If I could find one or two people in Leeds who are happy with sky BB I'll take the plunge, but until then I'm hanging on with BT.

Anyone in Leeds got sky BB??

    Many Thanks, Sarah

Re: Sky broadband - it is rubbish !

    Hi Simon,

As a tip, try not to lose your current connection for as long as possible, if at all!

That way you'll be covered if it does not work!

Re: Sky broadband - it is rubbish !

thanks for warning me off sky BB.

I have just signed up but having read these posts am now aware of the cancellation policy and if it does not work straight away will cancel within 8 days of activation date.
