Re: Sky Broadband - anyone got it yet?

    UPDATE:
well it's now October 7th, My activation date was September 1st i was disconnected from my previous broadband provider in mid August at Sky's request. after 12+ hours of calls at premium rate They have decided what I suspected on september 1st that I have a faulty router... well Ok they took their time but they got there in the end....

    now the fun begins...
I got a call this afternoon (3 weeks or so after I was told by Teir 3 that they would order a new router and chasing it with various departments since) it was Sky Tech services asking if I had recieved the FIRST router yet :-( SO I HAD TO PROVE THAT I HAD RECIEVED IT TO HIM BY QUOTING THE CODE ON THE BACK OF THE ROUTER! SO HE CAN NOW ORDER ONE FOR ME...

    so lets get this straight....

SKY ARE ASKING ME IF I HAVE RECIEVED A ROUTER OVER A MONTH AFTER MY ACTIVATION DATE AND AFTER 12 HOURS OF PHONE CALLS TO THE VERY DEPARTMENT HE IS CALLING ME FROM!
SO WHY WOULD I BE PHONING TO SEE IF THEY COULD POSSIBLY SEE THEIR WAY CLEAR TO LETTING ME HAVE BROADBAND IF ITS NOT TOO MUCH TROUBLE, I MEAN I'VE ONLY PAID FOR 2 AND A HALF MONTHS SERVICE AND SPENT A FORTUNE ON PHONE CALLS...

    SKY BROADBAND "ITDOESNTGETBETTERTHANTHISBAND" TOO TRUE!

Re: Sky Broadband - anyone got it yet?

My sky broadband was actualy actiated on the day they said it would be!

I'm connected to their "max" service, but am only getting speeds of 1.5 - 2 gb. However, I have tested the router on the test socket on the BT master & speed went up to 10gb.
I guess I'm going to have to re-wire all of my phone extensions.

I've noticed that in the past couple of days the email system has burst into life, but my broadband connection is still dropping out at least 2 or 3 times a day & I'm having to re boot the router each time.

Hopefully, Sky will iron out any "teething problems" they have soon!!

I've only been on sky broadband for a couple of weeks so far & am quite patient, but I hope they hurry up & get things sorted or I may have to complain!!

Re: Sky Broadband - anyone got it yet?

My sky broadband was connected on the day stated back on the 5th September. Router does drop out occasionally, was worse last weekend... perhaps some updates going on?? Anyway since installing Vista on my desktop, which is wired to the router, this doesn't seem to happen so often. Speeds of 11 to 13 mbps are shown....

Re: Sky Broadband - anyone got it yet?

hello again - hoping someone can give me some advice here. As per my note a page or so back, now over a month with no bb and no sign of anyone doing anything about it since moving to Sky. So, sent in a stroppy complaint letter and a request to cancel the contract last week (still no response) and today received my MAC code so i could return to BT -

spoke with someone at the BT BB Migration dept as the MAC code was coming up as an error, and to cut a long story short, the problem is that because Sky use some kind of line share with easynet rather than the BT wholesale boxes like most others, I can't migrate to anyone else until they release my line back to BT (I assume this means unplug me from their own equipment and put me back into the BT switch?)

has anyone else come across this (and in particular to anyone that also migrated off of Sky), did this happen automatically as part of the cancellation process, as can't imagine in a million years that the Sky BB c/servs will have a clue what I'm talking about if I ask them when my line will be released back to BT?

any advice would be greatly appreciated
    thanks a lot Sean

Re: Sky Broadband - anyone got it yet?

SKy Broadband, I hope that someone from their customer services is reading this forum!
    after 7 weeks...
...I now have 2 routers, a connection that drops with alarming regularity, a LARGE phone bill, more than half of which is to a certain 0870 number! and still no resolution is sight, yesterday, after a LOOOOOOOOOOOng delay i finally took delivery of a new router, with great anticipation, I plugged it in and turned on the computer, the lights came on and for a brief second all seemed to be OK... but then the connection dropped and wouldn't come back up, so just for a giggle I thought "I know I'll call the helpful sky people" so after an hour or so, the answer is "I DUNNO" and could I call back after a few days to allow the router to "Settle Down"
sorry, I was unaware it had to Settle, so now I have placed it in a soft quilt and offered it a cup of tea and hopefully it will settle happily into its new home!

    Watch this space!

Re: Sky Broadband - anyone got it yet?

you have just upset me a great deal - I ordered Sky broadband on 25th August - no equipment ever arrived, although my line was activated a week after the given date (7th - done on 14th or thereabouts). After numerous phone calls, and e-mails I also decided to cancel my registration - but every time I phone no-one has any record of it. Phoned on 2nd October to cancel and ask for MAC code to go back to BT, was told it would take 5 days by post (strange when I cancelled BT they were very obliging and gave me the MAC code over the phone). 9th October phoned again requesting MAC code - they have no record of my asking for it (why am I not surprised). Called again today - 12th October, still no record of the MAC code having been requested, the person I spoke to says she will definitely request it today, and it will take 5 days by post.
Having read the above article, of course I am now convinced as and when I do receive it =, it probably won't work, and I shall be without the internet for another few weeks.
As has previosly been said - I would wait until Sky get their act together before anyone tries to obtain it.
Sorry it is another gripe at Sky - but they have caused themselves many problems.........

Re: Sky Broadband - anyone got it yet?

Like many of the tales of woe recorded here, I too was lured in by the promise of "cheap" broadband! I placed my order at the beginning of September to migrate from my then-current provider and I was told the switch would be made a few days later. Come the promised date, my connection to my old provider is still active and functional. Several days later that connection died, and I assumed it would only be a day or two before the Sky connection took over. 3 days later the line still wasn't working, so I called Sky and was told the line was still "awaiting provisioning"!!! This was obviously completely wrong since my line had already been provisioned, so I called BT to find out if there was a fault on the line. As it turns out, when the switch was made from my old provider to Sky someone from Sky had cocked up the equipment in my exchange and so BT would have to be called out to repair the fault (which would take several days!). So I waited. Several days later BT finally fixed the line, and so I called Sky again to find out how long until they could activate the order. After at least 30 minutes on hold I was told that due to the fault the original order would have to be cancelled and replaced. The customer service man promised to do that right away, and I would receive new details about when I would be activated. Several days later (ie today) I called back to find out what the progress was on my order and was told that no new order had been received, however my original order was still cancelled!!!

Enough is enough. I've now been without Internet access at home for just over a month! I'm giving up on Sky and going back to my original provider (Newnet.co.uk! They're brilliant!) and as soon as my TV contact with Sky is finished i'm cancelling that as well. I recommended that you do the same if your experiences have been anywhere near as bad as mine. It's the only way they'll learn.

Re: Sky Broadband - anyone got it yet?

Is anyone getting the same 'wireless' problems as I am?

    1. The automatic need to 'repair wireless connections' after EVERY boot-up of pc/laptop to TRY to gain a connection

    2. Random drop-outs 'when' connection is gained.

    3. When a connection HAS been established its lost as soon as you move the PC/Laptop out of the SAME room as the Sky modem

Im using the same D-link USB wireless dongle as I 'was' successfully using with 'Telewest BB' only to find all these problems now I've moved to SKY. I called Sky tec support and after several calls the best advice I could get was to try purchasing a 'stronger arial' for the Netgear Modem. So, this I did - No affect whatso ever!

Like most of you here, the lure of cheap ultrafast broadband sounded fantastic but ended up a fantasy.

SKY BB - I'm not at all impressed!

Re: Sky Broadband - anyone got it yet?

    Hello,

I don't usually respond to forum topics but I thought it necessary to give a 'precis' of my Sky BB issues to date...

I was with Zen internet for circa 5 years, and in essence their Dsl service never missed a beat - uber reliable... anyway.

Jumped ship to Sky in early October (16mb) - after a second attempt at registering because they had lost the original details due to 'high demand', and have had 'issues' ever since.

The biggest bugbear being the Dsl link dropping many times a day / night. 'Rebooting' the router resolves this issue but obviously that isn't the ideal solution.

I know a little knowledge is dangerous but I am confident enough to troubleshoot my side of the technical equation.

After double figure phone calls to 'tech support' (questions range from what colour are the Led's on the front of the router?). I now apparentley have been escalated to tier 2 tech support. During the last call, I managed to establish the call center was in the Phillipines (practical?). When I enquired as to an update on my current issue's I was politely informend that 'somebody' would get back to me within 5 working days.

I look forward to 'someone' contacting me, but won't hold my breath in any case.

We have been hung up on, ridiculed and generally belittled by Sky BB support.

The Sky BB organisation is a joke. The sprawling mass that is Sky BB needs to be delivered a short sharp shock from somebody on high (any idea's on how to escalate or expose further this shambolic setup).

If I ever get my issue's resolved I'll let you know.

Better click send before the connection drops...

Re: Sky Broadband - anyone got it yet?

I too am having the same problems & have to re boot the router several times a day, (at least morning & night). It's driving me mad! I haven't phoned sky tech support as I spoke to someone there when I first got the line activated - very low speeds which I'm still getting! - they really don't know what they're doing.

I'm just waiting to see if the "teething problems" sort themselves out.
I'm going to give it another couple of weeks but then I sppose I'll have to phone someone.

The people at Sky broadband really should try to get their act together.

Re: Sky Broadband - anyone got it yet?

Well, I have decided 'enough is enough!'.

Sky BB clearly were 'unable' to fullfill their contactual obligations of 'superfast, always on' broadband... so, I have Wrote-Faxed and Emailed my wish, to cancel the contract. (I wasn't prepaird to make another 'double figure' phone call).

I have also taken the precaution of also canceling my Direct Debit arrangement, in order to avoid paying any further for a service which was not being supplied as agreed.

On Friday, I called 'Telewest' my previous BB provider who incidently answered my FIRST call in about 40 seconds (not 40 mins), to discuss being re-connected, and they where all too familiar with my dissapointment with SKY. "We've had a LOT of people with the same problems sir" I was told by the guy on the phone.

I'm happy to report that by Friday evening I was back online, back upto speed BACK ON BROADBAND.
Since then I have'nt had to re-boot, power off or re-connect to the modem once. Every thnig is as you expect for a company who provide aim to provide reliable Broadband .....everything SKY cound NOT.

    Hello (again) Telewest, Goodbye SKY!.

Re: Sky Broadband - anyone got it yet?

    Hi,

I have also signed up for the Sky b'band - went for the Mid package. The order and everything went through fine and got the equipment.

Received the letter stating that my line would be activated on 09/10/06. Date came and I was still connected to my old ISP!!
Finally later that week on 13/10/06 my old ISP stopped working. So I thought great - time to install the sky software and get online.

Did that and got to the final point and got the "Hmm something wrong with your connection" message. Anyway basically phoned Sky up numerous times over the past few days only to be told - "its BT's fault they have not switched you over". So I complain to BT and they run their tests and confirm that it has 100% been switched over.

After arguing with various people at Sky one of them finally admits that there is a flag on their system "it shows £inbox - which shows there is a problem" he says. He informs me that there is a problem at the exchange on Sky's part and that they need to install a new "type pair". I am told it could take around 2 weeks - so I will be without b'band for a total of 3.5 weeks!

I have spent over 4 hours on the phone to Sky - its ridiculous!! Has anyone heard about this "type pairs" problem?

Also another point I understand (from BT!) that Sky b'band is not ADSL - its LLU. My house has an ADSL socket and all other phone points in the house are "network points" - we don’t not have a regular BT phone socket. BT inform me that LLU might not work with this setup. Sky say it will. Can anyone who has network points as phone sockets in their house confirm? (Basically everything is controlled from a patch cabinet downstairs - and the ADSL socket plugs into one of the points - where the router is then plugged into using the corresponding number on the patch cabinet - hope that made sense)

    Thanks!

Re: Sky Broadband - anyone got it yet?

    Hey Miahsh,
Your story sounds identical to mine (even the promised activation dates are similar). I gave up on Sky last week (see my previous message) so now i'm waiting for my old provider to sort out the problems that Sky caused in order to get me back online.

As I said, I recommend you cancel your Sky order ASAP! They do not deserve anyone's business!!!!!!!
