Different organisations use different creteria for residency but typically, for travel insurance, you need to have been living in the UK for the 6 months prior to departure with a UK address. You should look at some standard, off-the-shelf policies.

Before taking out a policy, you need to be clear about what you would like to happen in the event of bad weather. No policy can stop the bad weather but I would imagine that some policies might refund the cost of tickets while others might pay for accommodation.

I'm travelling with my partner through Belgium and Amsterdam over Christmas and New Year and looking for travel insurance during this time mostly to cover transport being cancelled due to bad weather. We've looked at a few options online but not sure if we qualify as we are not permanent UK residents. My partner is here on a 2year working visa (from NZ if that matters) and I have an Irish passport. We arrived mid-June so have been in the UK over 6 months and we're not signed with a Dr. Are you able to suggest any company's that might be able to help.
