    Scottish Power VERY large bill

    Hi guys,

I'm new on the forum, but I will appreciate if some one can help me. I have 5 bedroom new detached house, built in 2003. Previous owner was with Scottish Power, so we didnt think to move to anyone else. We recieve a bill for usage from 29.11.07 - 01.02.2008 for gas and electricity on amount of £3,247.70 !!!!!! Where £2,770.88 is electricity and 316.32 is a gas. Bill shows so we use 28215 kWh @8.893. Extra they send me info so price increase from february from 8.893 to 10.448 ...

First from all, how we could use that amount of electricity?!?!?! Its only me, my wife and our 3 years old daughter in the house. We have to bathrooms with heating floor, but is on only for 4hours a day, 2 morning, 2 evening. I have a fish tank, but this still is not even close to get this figures. I own a minimarket where we have large cold room, freezer, deli counter 7 meters long with 3 phase connections, loads of power, lights etc. and my monthly bill is around £700 where business rates are higher for electricity.

What should I do??? I ask them for meter check what cost me £50 upfront, and they will come in 2 weeks time to check the meter out.

Is there any one else having same problem?

    A.

    Hi minisam new myself,

My brother in law had the same problem when he moved house, and when everything was finally sorted it was a simple mistake of the meter read wrong. Two of the digits were the wrong way round. But i suppose you have already checked the readings again just to make sure.

    Just a thought

Check the meter eadings they are billing you UPTO if these are correct compare the opening readings used on the bill to the opening meter readings i am hoping you took when you moved in. IF you haven't then speak to your supplier and contest the opening meter readings, they may ask you to take several meter readings over the span of a few days or weeks and re-calculate the opening meter read. THIS is the reason the bill is so large, one or the other of these readings is incorrect.

A meter check will only serve to prove the meter is running accuartely.. it will not highlight the problem if it is a matter of billing, or incorrect readings.

The answers I give you may not want to hear. The answers I give may not be easy. The answers I give will be the truth. If your prepared for this - ask away!
