    Re: Scottish Power -outragous bills

    Hi,

Eventually got a dedicated worker and nos from Scottish Power and the same from the energy people.  It transpires that I was still on the records as being in dispute and therefore they hadn't been taking any money (I have to take some responsibility for that although thought my husband had paid the bills) and they don't have to send reminders!!  Even though I have been callling all during the year, had meters changed etc I had no idea.

It has been worked out that actually I am using roughly the same amount of units as the average house, for gas and elec, but because I hadn't paid anything thats why I got an enourmous bill again!

Apparantly because I agree that the units average out over the year I now have to go to the Ombudsman regarding customer service.  My complaint is that at no time have SP contacted me and at no time when I have contacted them did anyone discuss my account with me and explain why the units were so erratic.   In addition to this they have now told me I am not on a cheap tarrif and that I can get it even cheaper if I register on line.

I am just about to put pen to paper with my official complaint.  Will let you know how I get on.

    Meggie,

£2000!? That's the equivalent to more than 2-years usage based on the average consumption.

£600 in 2-months is almost a years usage so there is surely something wrong here.

Have you confirmed your meter readings match that of the energy provider?
    Has the meter been checked?
Are you keeping regular readings to see how much energy you are using each day?

If you haven't already done so I'd advise you call Energywatch on 08459 06 07 08. They should be able to help.

You can start by asking SP to confirm the meter readings they have on there system and compare this to the actual readings.

Once this matter has been resolved be sure to shop around for a new product. We've had plenty of new product*** the market in recent months offering very competitive prices.

Stay in touch and let us know how you get on.

Your bills seem very high; it would be worth checking that you are receiving the correct bill; I received my neighbours bill for about 18 months before I realized - check the codes on your account /cross check with your meter; ckeck the usual things - leaving electrical equipment on/ useage / central heating timers etc

We live in a new 4 bed - and currently pay £34 for electric and £56 for gas (3 people in the house) - hope this helps to make a comparison. Have you been paying regular amounts before January

    Re: Scottish Power -outragous bills

    I'm with SP.

1   Do you know what your year on year consumption is?

2   Are you in a bitter avderserial situation with them or still communicating in a fairly civilised manner?

3   If you are officially in despute have you followed their complaints procedure?

4   Energywatch can help at some stage BUT they're not necessarily a panacea.

3   Can you afford, if necessary, to pay out what you would consider to be an excessive amount over the near future?

    Scottish Power -outragous bills

In January they sent me a bill for 2000.00 saying my meter had't been read etc.  I refused to pay and got it reduced to 1300.00 which included some discount on their behalf.  I have been paying 179.00 mth for gas and elec and my recent bill now shows I still owe 563.00.  Having asked why, they said my usage (it's gas and elec) for Feb and March was 600.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I have an average 3 bed semi, usual usage of AM and PM, don't use tumble dryer anymore and really cut back since the large bill earlier this year.  I have had my elec meter changed and they say I need to turn everything off for .45mins and then check if the light on meter is still flashing if it does then there is something on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    I really don't know how to dispute this and get them to prove I have used this outragously large amount, which I know I can't have
