    Returned cheque

Through a complete innocent error i had a cheque returned. the debt was, without my knowledge, passed to an external agency. The company to whom i issued the cheque is the company i work for, however they were unable to read the address on the back of the cheque correctly and obviously this resulted in failed contact. The agency assigned on the other hand contacted me successfully and i paid in full the cheque amount plus extra for 'fees'. The debt was settled in October to the agency however the original recipient has since tried in November twice to bank the cheque. Fortunately I only transfer money into this account to cover cheques and s/o's , a timing error lead to the original return. However this company is now trying to charge my £80 on the original £30 cheque in fees for the returns, surely the fact that they are attempting to cash the cheque even though i had settled with the agency they assigned, must be some kind of fraud??

    Any advice for a newbie?

    Thanks in advance
