    Re: Repaying mortgage.

Good for you - it's great that you have some financial security instead of just blowing the lot. It's a great legacy and I'm sure you dad would have been proud.

All the best for your mortgage free future!!!! ;)

    Re: Repaying mortgage.

Thanks everyone for your replies and kind words. I went to the bank today and they wanted a cheque, so its done!!!!!

They did say they may owe me a small amount as this months mortgage payment had just gone out and that I would recieve a letter saying its paid off soon. Cant believe it, feels very strange, I was like a jibbering wreck.

    Thanks again.

    Re: Repaying mortgage.

You have absolutely nothing to apologize for, for whatever reason it is always positive that someone can pay their mortgage off. We'd all like to do it although I appreciate it is not under your unfortunate circumstances but everyone is welcome to ask any question on this forum, and I'm afraid that there may be the odd answer where the poster has typed before thinking. Please pop back on to let us know how you got on.

    Re: Repaying mortgage.

Thanks Ian, sorry didnt make it clear, yes we have moved house, kept the same mortgage lender but changed from an offset to a 'normal' mortgage but lent more money. The offset wasnt working for us as we didnt have the savings to offset against! Ive found my documents and thankfully there is no penalty apart from a £275 repay fee.

Just want to say sorry to anyone whos read this and thought bad of me going on about repaying a mortgage in such hard times, I feel quite bad about it now and didnt think. Believe me, Id rather my dad be here. Thanks again for all your advice.

    Re: Repaying mortgage.

Hi...reading between the lines, like you learn to do on the forum, I will assume that when you say you moved you meant you moved house and kept the same lender??? It is unusual not to take advantage of preferred rates so look at the early redemption part of your offer, it will state what percentage the penalty is, if any. Condolences for the loss and I hope that you get mortgage free as soon as possible.

    Re: Repaying mortgage.

    Sorry for that.

But check your documents first. It is important to know if it is a early repayment charge to be paid.

    Re: Repaying mortgage.

    Hi

You started to annoy all of us. We speak about reppossessions here, people struggling with debts and you keep asking questions how to redem your mortgage.

The fact that you moved from another lender tell me that you are 99 % tied in. Some of Woolwich mortgages have the interest calculated annualy not daily ... reed carefully your documents .... you have all the information there .... how the interest is calculated in a case of redeming. Read early repayment charges as well ... and you will find what you need. If there are any early repayment charges ask a financial advisor to give you a recommandation.

    So please ....

    Eugene

    Re: Repaying mortgage.

Mmmm, good idea, I know I have to pay £275 early repayment fee but we moved 15 mths ago so I wouldnt be suprised if there is a penalty, thanks I didnt think about that. I will double check that first. We didnt take out any special rate so hopefully I wont be tied in.

    Re: Repaying mortgage.

If you really want to annoy them write a cheque for an amount larger than you think the redemption figure is and pay it in tomorrow with your account number on the back. If the amount is more then you will only pay interest on that amount, but it will be less than waiting for them to produce the figure. I do hope that there is not a penalty for paying it off early, please check that you are not tied into a special rate.

    Re: Repaying mortgage.

Thanks Ian, Its a Woolwich mortgage through Barclays.

So I can walk into my branch tomorrow and just pay it off??? The letter they sent is going on about all the linked accounts, I think they are getting mixed up with my previous mortgage which was an offset one.
