    Re: Remortgage and bankruptcy

You won't get a remortgage if you're still undischarged and will struggle after that if you haven't got enough income to cover it (the max you can get is 3 - 3.5 times your gross income). However, once your current deal with Northern Rock comes to an end you'll just revert to their variable rate so will still have a mortgage so long as you keep the payments up. If you can't afford to move to repayment (or some other way to repay the capital) then you should question whether you can afford the house - you will need to pay the capital off at some stage.

Go and see CAB to make sure you're getting all the benefits you're entitled to and ask what you would be entitled to if you rented a property. You'll need to save for a decent deposit though unless you can get a Council house.

    Hi

You should check what benefits you are entitled to (entitledto.com). I believe there are scheme whereby you can get your mortgage interest paid by the government, but I don't know anything about it I'm afraid. I would recommend going back to the CAB if you have any questions regarding benefits

    Remortgage and bankruptcy

Since myself and my husband obtained our mortgage, my husband has been physically retired from work (aged 30) so we only have my part time wage coming in. This has meant that in July we both were advised by the CAB to go bankrupt.

Currently our mortgage with Northern Rock is interest only (until January 2010).

I know my wage alone is not enough to obtain a mortgage for the value we need but we have never missed a payment. Do you think there is anything they will do to help us? Where is best to go to seek advice?
