RED Driving Instructor Tuition - Costs

I am interested in becoming a driving instructor with RED and am trying to find out how much money I am looking at having to pay out to get qualified and on their team etc....I know AA charge something along the lines of 2k to get set up but cant find anywhere on RED website what their costs are.....all they state is that there are no hidden charges but it doesnt show any charges.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

My understanding is that they don't use their own driving instructor schools. They use the main school provider in your area.

The fees I think are in the region of £3000 to £3500 depending on how long it takes.

Be careful to look into this career option properly. I understand that first year earnings can only average £14k. You are also often self employed and have to do your own tax returns. It can take quite a few years to become established and to get word of mouth recommendations, so you can earn a decent amount. The £30k earnings advertised are optimistic and require you to work alot of hours, probably over 7 days. So the adverts about setting your own hours may not be totally realistic.

I know of several people that have chosen this career. A couple of them really enjoy it, as it easily beats working in an office with all the targets and jumping through hoops required these days. But you have to flexible and accept that your earning to begin with, will not be what you expected. Another person I know, gave up after a couple of years, as the income was not enough for them to maintain paying all their bills. I suppose it depends on where you live and what the competition is like.

    Spot on advice from Huckster.

My good lady is a driving instructor and is really enjoying it despite the tribulations involved in getting qualified. These big schools charge the earth and give no support whatsoever. They will send you a room full of text books but no explanation of what to do. Remember that these people are after everyone's cash and not after improving the nation's driving.

We were stung by 2 different companies before we realised that it would be best to learn under a professional, independant, reliable instructor...
