National insurance doesn't get repaid. If you earn £x amount in a month/week, you pay £y in national insurance.

For income tax, you should check the last payslip of the year and/or the P60 to make sure that things are right. If you've overpaid tax, contact HMR&C if nothing happens in the next month.

Cool, thanks. I've always had to request a payment, but as I'm employed this year, hopefully it'll go in with my salary. What month does this usually happen?

Also, it sounds like its just income tax repayment I'll get, not national insurance contributions?

It might all happen automatically. If the overpayment hasn't been corrected by the PAYE system or by the time you get the P60, you can contact HMR&C.

    Reclaiming overpaid tax...

    Hi guys,

I'll soon be claiming a tax rebate, as I started my first job in the year in October 2011 and have overpaid.

Just wondering whether it is just income tax I will get back, or whether any rebate also includes national insurance tax?

Also, do most employers send out P60s as standard, or do you usually have to request them?

    Thanks!
