    Hi Cat!

Yup to be honest I would tend to agree with your thoughts - upon further reflection. We as consumers do have a voice and I think its important that we use it - I just hope the banks don't penalise everyone!

I personally take pleasure in having the banks do all my banking for free... I rarely, if ever use my overdraft and pay my credit card off in full each month - its quite nice to know that they're administering my account for free... I wonder how long it will last!?

    Hiya Sparks

I too used to work for NatWest!

Yes, you definitely have a point; in fact, some banks have already gone this way, only to discover alrge portions of their customer base going in the opposite direction!!

I personally believe that this will not happen to any great degree. Customers can, do - and have - made their voices heard: do you remember when the banks tried to charge us all for using 'alien' cash machines? There was such an outcry that we now only get charged by a cash machine if it is one of those diddy little ones they put in odd places!!

So I doubt this will come to fruition even though a few banks are trying it or thinking about it.

Reclaiming bank charges...good in the short term...

    Evening all,

I'll say this first, I managed to get £90 back off my bank in 'unfair charges' and I felt pretty damn good about it! The truth of the matter is, although it felt good - I believe we are now facing the harsh reality of our actions...

I personally bank with Natwest and have done since I was a wee babby (my mum used to work there.... anyway thats another story!). I believe to counter all these people (including myself) who are claiming back all this money, the banks will only have one course of action and that is to charge a monthly premium for the pleasure of having a bank account... This may have been mentioned before, and I hope it has - because I would hate to think that I'm the only person who has thought of it! I know the amount they are paying oyur pales in comparison to what they make each year - but they have to keep the shareholders happy...

What do other MoneySupermarket readers reckon - is this the next step for the high street banks??

Apologies if this has been posted before.. anyway just my 2p!
