    Question about ccj's & debt

hi, i just have a quick question. i have a ccj from around 3/4 years ago. (while in college, and some stupid situation).

i was planning on clearing every single one of my debts in the next 8 months (before i hit 25) the total amount is nothing crazy. (£3000 - £4000)

but then i was thinking, if i have a ccj which lasts for 6 years. even with having all of my debts cleared and being debt free, would i even be able to start to rebuild my credit history? or is everything on hold untill the ccj time is up? im really not sure in how the ccj works at all.

if anyone has any answers or advice it would be vey much appreciated.

    thank you.

Re: Question about ccj's & debt

Hi -- Once a CCJ has been legally placed it stays on your credit file for the statutory Six year period unless you settle it in full within the first month of it being ordered, or there are other valid legal reasons to apply to the courts to have it "set aside", the link below explains these valid grounds.

get your debts paid off then send a letter to them. you can start reparing your credit rateing slowly.

Yes, but read the letter in the link you can only apply to have the CCJ removed from your credit record once it has been "set aside" by the court, in the first instance. You have to have valid grounds to apply to the court for the removal of a CCJ..........It is not the same as a default notice.

Sorry Miss P - jumped ahead of myself there. CMK is right (apologies to both)

thanks for all the replies so far. im going to spend some time and read those links tonight.......

so instead of trying to rush and pay this off in the next few months. do you think i should just space it out a little longer. since the ccj will be sitting nicely on my credit profile anyway....

Thats a personal choice miss P . The name of the game is not to leave yourself short.

i've just had a look at this website and it seems that there are merits in paying off your CCJ earlier as "A CCJ has a beaing on your mortgage application should you decide to go for one."
