Thanks so much for your reply. So does this mean I may need a new boiler after all?

    Re: Problems with Boiler

The noise your getting is most likely kettling. where the heat exchanger is restricted. if chemicals will not clear it there is not much else you can do. A powerflush could make it worse.

Not really viable to fit a new heat ex to that boiler now due to age, most likely to be obsolete.

Hard to say without seeing it.

    Problems with Boiler

Can anyone help??? I have an Ideal Mexico boiler (probably in house since roughly 1985) and it keeps making an irritating whistling noise every 20 mins approx. We have already had British Gas out chemicals in system last year, and now we have had a plumber tell us we need a new boiler!!!! either that or it needs chemicals because of scaling. Would any of this advice be correct? Hoping I don't need a new boiler!
