Hi
Wondering if anyone can help.
My partner (non eea national) was in the UK for 3 years. He had a bank account from his arrival until November last year when his bank cancelled his account as his visa had expired. Unbeknown to me, my partner had overstayed his visa and, fearful of being deported for overstaying his visa and being sent back to his homeland, he tried to open a bank account with a fake id card. The police were called, and, due to his previous good character and never being in trouble with the police, he was given a caution. The Home Office however removed him due to overstaying his visa.
To cut a long story short, the Foreign Office gave him the opportunity to put this situation behind him, granted him a visa to return to the UK for 6 months and the Home Office have since extended his visa for a further 2 years. He has now been offered a new job but needs a bank account in order for his salary to be paid in.
My question is, is it likely he will be able to get another bank account in the UK? He has tried to open an account with a building society who declined to offer him a current account and asked him to apply for a basic cash card account. He subsequently tried to do this, only to have his application rejected.
Oue fears are he is on a fraud database and this will be held against him, regardless of the circumstances.
Any help appreciated.
