    Re: Private messaging facility?

    Hi,

I agree with Stubie-One that being able to PM is a really great idea. It can sometimes be difficult knowing that everything you post is available for all to see, and once you've had a lot of replies from particular users, it would be great to be able to contact them personally.

I understand that this is not something this forum could develop overnight, but it would be great to progress to. I have always found this forum really easy to navigate, and so for me it beats similar forums in that respect. The ability to easili see unanswered posts, and hot topics is fantastic.

Grahame, am I right in saying that if you put your email address in the profile section, then everyone/anyone would be able to contact you that way?

    Private messaging facility?

In response to an email from Stubie-One who was asking about having a Private Messaging facility:

It’s an excellent idea and a very good question. It’s definitely something we’re considering for the future development of our community area – particularly for those members who regularly offer excellent advice and go out of their way to help others.

Unfortunately, the current technology doesn’t allow us to do this but we can certainly see where it could be of benefit. There are other considerations, however, such as how to give members control so they don’t receive unwanted direct messages from spammers or unscrupulous lenders. For example, in the ‘debt’ forum, this could cause a range of problems with members being directly marketed to or pointed towards companies or products that are unsuitable for their purposes.

Having said that, it’s a really good idea and I’ll make sure is given proper consideration in our future plans – promise!

For the time being, the only way for members to contact each other is to place their email in their community profile. To do this, log-in and go to the News & Community homepage and click on ‘Edit my community profile’ on the top right-hand side.

I hope that helps – thanks again for your feedback. It’s all good and I’m keen to get as much feedback about ways to improve our community experience as possible – not just from a technical perspective, but in other ways too. If anyone has any other feedback, please don’t hesitate to post a reply or by dropping me a line at the email address below.
