    Re: pre payment meters

Southern Elec/hydro/atlantic/swalec does not charge to change meters!

After the intal 28days it takes to take over the supply they will book an appointment with you to change your meter to credit meters.

They will probs want to set you up on dd so you can still budget or a paygo swipe card (take to the post office and top up kind of thing but not a PPM)

Its a bit sneaky to say we will change them for free after 1 year!

    Re: pre payment meters

There is no charge for changing supplier but some do charge for changing the meters.

If you paid the £120 deposit now and then switched supplier, the current supplier would have to refund any credit (including the deposit) on the account.

    pre payment meters

I moved into my council property last year to find pre payment meters for both gas an electricity. i have never used these before so phoned my supplier to arrange to have them removed as i wished to pay direct debit, no problem they said but it would cost £120 each. There was no way i could afford that but it was fine, they said they would take them out for free after i had been with them for 1 year. I have phoned back after my year was up to be told there is no charge for removing them but now there is £120 deposit required for each which i would recieve back after 12 months!! I told them I was told it would be removed for free but their response was, "unfortunately our policy has just changed and you've called at the wrong time"!

I am a single parent who is trying to save money but to no avail, these meters are bleeding me dry! I am currently with Scottish Power but i'm really thinking of changing my supplier but will i still be charged if i go elsewhere?
