    Re: Powergen discounts

Update to my problems with Powergen's prices.
As I have stated, I sent them a message complaining the prices I was paying were way over any other suppliers, they replied with some new figures that hardly made a difference.
So I checked and noted that I wasn't getting the discounts I though I was. Messaged them again and was told I was getting the only discount appropriate.

After Christine's post I messaged them again and quoted what Christine had said, and asked why some customers got good discounts and other didn't.... and I told them it was too late now as I had applied to EDF to take over my supplies.

just got a reply saying they have been trying to ring me (I had two with-held number calls this week that I missed) and that they realise how annoyed I must be, and if I ring them - "we can discuss other options available to you. The last thing we want is for you to switch suppliers because of this".

Sorry Powergen, too little too late. I am not the type of person to cancel a contract at the last minute, whatever you offer !

    KAC,

You're free to change providers through moneysupermarket as much as you like but you won't receive another cashback payment.

The payment is made once we receive confirmation from your new provider that your account has been set-up.

Thanks Scott. Just hope I get my £30 without too much hassle :)
Am I right in thinking that if I change again through your site in the future I won't qualify for a rebate ?

    KAC,

No need to sit tight and see what happens in the market. Energy contracts usually last no longer than 28-days and there is nothing stopping you from changing provider now and then again when/if the price war starts off again.

I'd advise that you look to change energy providers atleast twice a year.

    It's your call though.

    Hi
Just to let you know that it was followed up in writing within 3 days, I double checked the details and it is in order. Phone again and be persistent and nice (0800 015 1847) quoting the details I have mentioned.
    Regards

    Re: Powergen discounts

When I signed up to Powergen a couple of years ago I was given various discounts (but never got them in writing) - Direct Debit, Dual Fuel, On Line, which all made the deal worthwhile. Recently I noticed that I was no longer getting these except for a small Dual Fuel discount. Apparently when my Capped Price contract expired, the discounts ended as well. I complained and was offered nothing ! One of the reasons I am desperate to now leave, once everyone sorts themselves out.

    Power Tart? I like that.

I wonder how long it will be before we see a user with that nickname. Very clever Christine!

    Re: Powergen discounts

    Thanks for the comments Scott
The only reason I didn't use your web site and gain £30, was that by phoning them myself I got the 19.60% discount applied to my current bill straightaway i.e. the huge winter one!!
However, if their new reduced rates don't come up to my expectations, I shall be using moneysupermarket.com very shortly.
Powergen were very candid when I phoned and said they were just waiting to see what reductions the other companies came up with.
Can I now call myself a Power Tart?
    Regards
    Christine

    Re: Powergen discounts

    Christine1,

    Thank you for your post.

This is quite common for providers to do.

Many customers believe that when a tariff is updated they automatically benefit, however more often than not you will not get the discounts until you contact the provider.

An example of this is with British Gas. 0000s of British Gas customers could save £000s every year by changing to a different/updated tariff with the provider.

You can do this using moneysupermarket.com and even get an extra £30 cashback for your hard work.

    Powergen discounts

I am an Energy Online customer and I was trawling comparison rates last week. I realised that Powergen were offering an "Energy Online Extra Saver" to new customers. This amounted to an extra 10.60% until at least 31 July 2008. I got straight on the phone to them and got this applied to my account. I have now got an overall discount of 19.60% to the Energy Online prices.
    3% Direct Debit Discount
    3% Dual Fuel Discount
3% Dual Fuel Direct Debit Discount
and 10.60% Energy Online Extra Saver

This extra 10.60% will not be applied to your account UNLESS YOU ASK FOR IT. This will also apply to their reduced tariff rates, when they eventually decide to give us one. All I can say is that you need to check your tariff at least monthly to ensure you are getting the best offers from your own supplier. This one freephone call saved me £100 per year!!!
