    Positive experience with Sky Broadband

    Hi guys,

I've read most of the posts in here and decided to post my own experience as well.

I've been with Sky since September last year on the Connect Package at £17 / month.

It does not work perfectly and I do have to reset the Router at least once every few days. However I am constantly on a nice 5.5 mb / sec speed and my download speed goes up to almost 500k / sec.

One of my main issues is that I cannot have both broadband and TV connected to the phone line. I do like to buy movies every now and then so I need the connection. However when I do this my broadband goes dead altogether , and the router keeps saying Negotiating until I plug the TV out. No idea how to solve this but it's not really a problem since i only do it 2-3 times a month maybe.

Apart from this, my connection is always up and it works great most of the time. I did have technical issues , for example the router showing a high speed but my actual speed was very low. It happened twice so fa and it has been solved quickly.

I found that whenever I got through to the Technical dept. the person on the other line did actually have idea of what I was talking about and fixed my problems quickly. When they couldn't they logged the issue at a higher level and usually I would have a solution and a call back in max 2 days.

Overall I am very pleased with the service and look forward to getting Sky Max since I will be soon moving to a new property :).

Before Sky I was with BT for over 2 years and it worked ok but the max speed they could offer me was 2 mb . They tried to upgrade me to 8 and that's when all hell broke loose and nothing worked anymore. This is the reason why i switched to sky. BT has a nasty habit of taking money from my account , I had to cancel my direct debit with them to stop them. their technical dept is a joke , they read scripts and have no idea about anything. At least with Sky most of the time I got someone competent on the phone.

So there you go. One positive experience in this ocean of un-happiness.

Re: Positive experience with Sky Broadband

Oh, one more thing. There was this one time when my connection went completely dead for 3 weeks. I've been on the phone obviously and they told me the problem is my BT line. So I phoned BT and they sent an engineer to have a look at it. The guy came , looked around, found out i had sky broadband and said he can't find anythin wrong with my line. Must be Sky's fault. I phoned Sky again and they said they will log their own complaint with BT as it's definitely not their fault. a few days later another engineer comes. This guy spent an hour trying to figure out what was happening. Thing is my phone would go on it's own and keep ringing at very strange hours. There was no one on the other end. my broadband was completely dead for over 3 weeks. The guy was puzzled as he could not find anything wrong with it. He finally went outside and came back after 30 minutes. he had found the problem and it was outside the property. He fixed my problem and left. 2 days later BT takes £100 from my account for the first visit because the first engineer said the problem was inside my property even if he did not know what it was ... It took me 2 weeks of phoning BT to actually get them to admit it was their mistake and refund me. Needles to say ... as soon as my line came back to life , my broadband was up and running with no issue whatsoever. I could go on and on with BT as I had several issues. That's why it really pisses me off when I see people recommending BT. Geez, stay away ... ! Sky may not be perfect but overall they're ok.

I've said this before, Sky have been nothing short of perfect for me so far. I'm 5 months into TV, phone and broadband.

The broadband is always on, has never gone off or twitched. My TV is on all the time and my phone works all the time.

Only thing is, you don't generally get people praising companies for things they say they'll do anyway, only folk shouting when these things don't happen....

Re: Positive experience with Sky Broadband

Just as an update, as this thread has risen it's head again. I'm still connected, going strong with no problems at all and would recommend at will. My mate has the same package and had nowt but problems at the start. I dismantled his system and connected up again, works fine now.

I'm far from an expert on these matters, infact rather a novice but I reckon my mate had installed it wrongly or something.

Cancel your direct debit too. They'll call or write to you if they try again rather than you having to call them to get it back. I would ask my bank to give me back my extra payments under the direct debit guarantee rather than wait for Orange to send me a cheque...
